Ok, so im really sad right now. I took out DDWRT on my R7800 and put the stock netgear firware back on in the hope i could usb tether my phone to the router, but its just not happening.... Basically my ISP is becoming very unreliable and my internet is going off a few times a week whilst they upgrade and sort things out. Im hoping someone will guide me in how to tether my android mobile to the router and thus have the net back on and im able to use Alexa, google and other devices that i loose when the net goes down. Im not tech savvy so hopefully you guys will come through for me like you have done in the past. Thanks for reading this post, take good care and stay safe, Doggy :)

Thanks for the readme. I was hoping in my ignorance to just be able to plug in and hey presto, its connected. I cant even SSH to my r7800 with the stock firmware yet. Obviously alot more reading is needed. I dont really want to move away from DDWRT as i had it for years and years on various routers....

You can always use your phone as hotspot and then use Client mode to connect wirelessly

Hey ECG, erm, forgive me for sounding really stupid... Are you saying i can just enable Client mode in the router settings and tell phone to do the hotspot. I think my router on has options like "Router" , "AP" or "bridge".

The first thing you need to do is return to DD-WRT on your router; otherwise, this thread is moot.

OK, after much thinking ive gone and bought an Asus RT AC88U. Looks like this router will take alot of custom firmwares and will USB tether straight out the box. Looks like its time to sell my R7800. Thanks for your help guys, again, very much appreciated.
