I do not see R6900v2 in the supported devices list or the betas folders.

Try looking for a used R7500v2 or R7800.

I was messing around in the https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2021/02-23-2021-r45820/netgear-r6900v2/ area and saw the beta there for r6900v2. Had an old one sitting around from the dump and put that .img file on it.

Works like a champ. 3 days up and no issues. It's a Mediatek chipset, and I was going to try a comparable build for another similar router. I didn't need to. Everything works great, I have it in Client Mode with two virtual adapters (one for each radio - 2.4ghz and 5.0ghz).

If you're an experimental person, I recommend this build. It seems to work.

Yes, support was added after this thread was started. Please consider upgrading to the current release (currently 48646).

So to upgrade we use the webflash bin and not the .img?

Correct, if you already have DD-WRT installed use r6900v2-webflash.bin to upgrade R6900v2 (MediaTek).

I'd link the generic installation wiki, but I just realized that somehow there's no generic instructions for flashing from stock firmware as I thought there was Rolling Eyes Simplest steps at present using info from the Netgear UG and personal experience:

Initial flash

  1. Go to https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2021/02-23-2021-r45820/netgear-r6900v2/ and download the factory-to-ddwrt.img file.
  2. Via web browser, navigate to and login to the router at http://192.168.1.1 / http://www.routerlogin.net
  3. Select ADVANCED > Administration > Firmware Update.
    The Firmware Update page displays.
  4. Locate and select the firmware file on your computer:
    1. Click the Browse (or Choose File) button.
    2. Navigate to the firmware file.
    3. Select the firmware file.

  5. Click the Upload button.
  6. Upon reboot, navigate to http://192.168.1.1
-You will be greeted by a user/password change page
  7. Enter a new password and repeat, then click "Change Password".
NOTE: Username is root. This can be changed at your discretion, but keep in mind that telnet/ssh username will always be root.
-You will be greeted by the Info page
  8. Click on Setup and begin configuring router as desired, using "Save" as your proceed through all configurations.
  9. When you are done, go to Services or Administration and then click "Reboot".

Upgrading DD-WRT:

  1. Go to https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2022/
  2. Select most recent release folder, then find the R6900v2 folder.
  3. Download the r6900v2-webflash.bin file.
  4. Via web browser, navigate to and login to the router at http://192.168.1.1 / whatever you set your router LAN IP address to on Setup -> Basic Setup tab.
  5. Select Administration -> Firmware Upgrade.
    The Firmware Update page displays.
NOTE: You do NOT have to do anything with the default "Do Not Reset" under "After flashing"
  6. Locate and select the firmware file on your computer:
    1. Click the Browse button.
    2. Navigate to the firmware file.
    3. Select the firmware file.

  7. Click the Upgrade button.
  8. Upon reboot, it should automatically redirect you to the Setup -> Basic Setup page.

If you experience any issues, go to Administration -> Factory Defaults and do a reset OR depress the reset button for ~10 seconds OR via telnet/ssh nvram erase && reboot then start over with new password, etc.

Quick note after reading the above: You WILL want to upgrade to the latest release. Any issues with the initial flash release will not be addressed as they may have already been fixed. Any issues with current release, please open a new thread / report in the proper build thread. Hope this helps.
