This is something that I have noticed for quite a while but never gotten around to posting about.

For my WNDR4300 and WNDR3700v4 routers, I have the Drive Manager (and RAID Storage Manager) available under Services - NAS. But it is not available on my WNDR3800. I tend to format the USB stick with the Drive Manager to ensure it's in the right format for the router.

The router identifies at "Netgear WNDR3700 v2/WNDR37AV v2/WNDR3800/WNDR38AV"

My observations are that it is not always there with some routers and my assumptions are that it is due to hardware limitations.

I use the NAS facility daily and to format the drive I just do it on a router that has the format function to avoid getting the 'DOS/MBR partition map' being created by doing it through Windows.

WNDR3800 has only 16 MB flash, WNDR4300 and WNDR3700v4 are 128 MB, dd-wrt firmwares 12 to 23 MB.

That's RAM, not flash space.

Not necessary; I'm sure it's a device-specific firmware build config limitation that was overlooked OR possibly a vendor-induced firmware image size limitation. I have not inquired as to why this device specifically doesn't have said functionality, but that is likely the reasoning as stated previously.
