Have a weird situation and hoping that someone has some advice. Google has come up short and I've been beating my head on this for days.

Because of metal crossbeams in my addition, part of my house is kind of a Faraday cage as far as wifi signals go. My main router is a Marvell-based WRT1900AC, but I had a wired Netgear AC1450 functioning as an access point in my living room. I recently got a good deal on a used Netgear R7000, and replaced the AC1450, configuring identical settings on the Wireless Basic and WL1 Advanced tabs.

I found that for 3 out of 4 of the laptops in my house, it made a significant speed boost over the AC1450, going from ~280 Mbps to ~370 Mbps. Those three laptops have fairly recent Intel chipsets. The fourth laptop is an older gaming laptop. It has an Qualcom/Atheros QCNFA34AC chipset. Connecting to the AC1450, it would connect with the 802.11AC protocol, and I could get around 280 Mbps. With the R7000, it connects to the 5GHz radio with 802.11n protocol and caps out around 120 Mbps. I tried setting the R7000 to AC only on WL1, but then the laptop only connects to the WRT1900AC, with really bad signal. Note that I made no changes to the laptop configurations, and all four are running Windows 10 21H2.

I was running DD-WRT 47925 STD on all three routers (WRT and both Netgears) when I first installed. At the moment, the WRT and R7000 are both running 48362 and nothing has changed.

Has anyone seen compatibility issues with the R7000 and QC/Atheros chipsets?
