I was given a DIR-825 B1 router with dd-wrt version 3.0 on it.
It does have some intermitence on the wifi and I wanted to know if I could fix it. (replace the power supply and all the connection on the pcb was check and even some soldering was reflowed in case.)
The firmware was 3.0 but not current so I upgraded to DD-WRT v3.0-r48296 std (02/05/22)
I revert the nvram to factory and the wifi problem is still there.
Now I want to revert to factory firmware to check something and I just cannot find a solution to this.
I tried the firmware upgrade by the dd-wrt adminstration page. This does not work.
I then did the firmware recovery option (30 second reset) and send on the firmware recovery page (192.168.0.1) of the latest dir-825 bin from d-link. still does not revert to factory firmware.

Try using an antique version of Firefox / Firefox portable. D-Link Emergency room seems to like IE from Win7/XP or antique Firefox versions. You may wish to add an unmanaged switch between PC and router. _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

Yes I've been using it to do the recovery of the router.
the device revert to the 192.168.0.1 ip adress and we can load a very small page where you can select a file on the computer then send it to the router.
If I sennd the original firmware from D-Link it pop up a fail. But another user said that the router dont like the new browser like chrome or firefox so I will try with a virtual machine running XP with IE we will see if that fix the case.

Always have a switch between your router and computer when doing stuff like recovery. I know that windows does not like to have a cable state change while trying to tftp to a machine that is barely up
Optimum solution would be to provide screenshots of applicable settings and logs to see what's "broken" in current releases or if it is user-induced.
I am pretty sure it is a hardware problem.
Removing the moded firmware out of the equation will confirm it or not. I will then do more testing after flashing back a new firmware if the hardware is ok.
I've reflown a few parts that seemed sketchy to say the least. The old owner told me it had trouble right from the beginning with the wifi but he already had some external AP from ubiquity so he did not cared much about the router AP.
Well I did try the VM in bridge mode with my NIC that is connected to the switch on wich Lan 1 port is connected to the router. I was able to ping 192.168.0.1 and connect on the router recovery web page with IE no win got the fail message and it did not recover
Is there a way to do the downgrade from the telnet CLI?
While I was on a meeting this morning I was looking at the bin file from d-link and from dd-wrt with 7zip to watch what was inside and they had a lot of difference but beside that could I just erase the content of the partition and try again the recovery? Could it be a simple space problem where the recovery mode does not have enough space to decompres the bin file I send?
Would the kernel provided by the dd-wrt installation be able to support the file system provided by d-link? are they basicly the same over or very different?
