I never use JFFS2, the only time I bricked a router was when using it and upgrading.
Besides depending on setup you can wear out your flash ram.
So if possible just use an USB stick.
That said sometimes this is the only (viable) option to use permanent storage.
As the size of the firmware grows it is possible that it will overwrite the space for JFFS especially on routers with less than 64 MB flash RAM like yours.
