Has any progress been made on the R7200? I can login via telnet. It looks like it has a MT7621 using MIPS 1004Kc.

I saw over at OpenWRT the R6700 has a ramips firmware released, albeit still a bit buggy (LEDs do funny things).
The betas here seem to have that firmware as well.

I bought it thinking it had VPN firewall capability, but it's just VPN client remoting.

I was hoping an alternative open firmware would offer that capability.

The Netgear R7200 hardware is the same as the R6800, and the R6700v2. The R7200 labeled one was only sold by walmart from what I have seen, but the same hardware was sold under different model numbers by different retailers.

Back when I posted this https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=323445 on the R7200 openwrt was not very stable on it. I tried again late last month, and have been using openwrt since. I am using the R6800 firmware from the daily snapshot builds as there is no stable build support for this model. Yes, the LEDs are buggy, but I am not too worried about that.

The nmrp recovery process makes it easy to recover from just about anything, and can even be used to put alternate firmware on one of these new out of the box without using the Netgear firmware interface at all.

Thanks for the reply. I'll check that out. I did see some activity regarding the 6715 chip there also. I guess that's Mediatek's wifi chip on these models. It would be nice to get a stable release of this fw.

If I remember correctly, I found this router for $79 on sale at Walmart. From what I can find online, the same router is now selling for over $150. Seems like solid hardware. If I ever do find another one on sale for a reasonable price, I may just buy and donate it. Smile

I bought R7200 and found last beta version here https://ftp.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2021/12-28-2021-r47925/netgear-r7200/
Also I tried to find Kong version here https://www.myopenrouter.com/kong-downloads , but unfortunately there is no R7200 version Sad
Okay, original GUI gave me to flash downgrade version, I flashed 'factory-to-ddwrt.img'.
After flash and reboot I see dd-wrt GUI but can't do anything(( Can't switch any tabs etc. But for example router DHCP is working, or if I turn on WAN the LED with internet is ON.
Any suggestions? How I can make my router alive?

See the forum guidelines with helpful pointers about how to research your router, where and what firmware to download, where and how to post and many other helpful tips:
https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=324087

Especially take note of point 12c

After upgrading you have to reset to defaults, hit the reset button for 5-10 seconds while the router is running or use the CLI (telnet/Putty) username is always root and do:
nvram erase && reboot

I just deployed some of the newly supported MediaTeks on 47925 without this kind of issue. You set a new password (I generally don't muck with a different username), it redirects you to the info page, you click on a tab, it asks for user/pass. Keep in mind, if you have your browser set to remember logins, disable that as it may cause issues.
