I have similar issues on my WR841's running r47481. Thanks for the info, will roll back to r47381 until solved.

It seems you need at least two and preferably 3 Static DNS servers on Setup page and/or disable "Query DNS in Strict Order" on Services page.

https://www.mail-archive.com/dnsmasq-discuss@lists.thekelleys.org.uk/msg15492.html

Thank you for locating the problem. I would hope though that a proper fix would be to upgrade dnsmasq to get the bug fix discussed later in that thread? An even better fix would be to determine why with these firmware versions my ATT Arris BGW210-700 detects and drops so many more invalid IP packets triggering the issue.

Just add an extra Static DNS address or disable "Query DNS in strict order" should work if this is indeed the problem

Not sure if there is going to be an update:

Edit: Simon says yes Smile

(Pun intended Smile )
"Query DNS in strict order FYI I have that enabled, never made much difference to the double DNS entry workaround.

Can someone explain to me why no-resolv and server= cannot be used across the board? Does it break something else? I am not seeing this issue except when there is an absolute connectivity issue of some kind.

By the way, Simon says "yes":

https://www.mail-archive.com/dnsmasq-discuss@lists.thekelleys.org.uk/msg15564.html

https://thekelleys.org.uk/gitweb/?p=dnsmasq.git;a=commit;h=2561f9fe0eb9c0be1df48da1e2bd3d3feaa138c2

So, it should be fixed when we merge v2.87 Cool Wink Always follow further down the mailing list Twisted Evil

yep SS there is a (TR) dnsmasq-2.87test4.tar.gz but no (RC) release-candidates yet... although the bug is fixed..

i haven't tested how it goes with Stubby, as the spare servers are inside the yaml file that works with GetDNS..and DNSmasq is just a backbone, so stric-order is overridden by stubby dns architecture (round-robbin 1)

I flashed r47618 onto my new XR500 and I can't access the internet. I telnet into the router and I can ping other devices on the LAN just fine, but I can't ping well-known external servers like `1.1.1.1` or `8.8.8.8`.

I've reset to factory settings twice, even re-flashed using a `.bin` for r47618, no luck. Any tips?

Not a build problem. r47618 is over five months old when it should not be over three weeks.

Power cycle ISP modem & configure XR500 WAN to ISP requirements if not Automatic DHCP.

Is there a better place for me to post? I'm happy to go somewhere else to ask for support if this isn't the place

I reset ISP modem, no dice. ISP instructed me to set to "Automatic - DHCP", which I did. These settings worked fine on my old router. I also plugged in my old router and copied the WAN IP address I used to have with that router and tried to configure a static WAN IP, still no luck.

I appreciate your help!

I tried another reset of my modem, this time with the reset button instead of unplugging it and plugging it back in. Now I have an IP address and can access the internet!
