Still not sure how to approach it even after reading
that forum thread. Am I to understand the upgrade (or downgrade) factory firmware file is different for US and EU versions of this model of router? Is there a link to the correct prerequisite firmware download?
Try this file for bringing back your new US version into good ol worldwide version, you can then if everything goes well continue with factory-to-ddwrt.bin.
I've modified the header of the DD-WRT 28072 factory-to-ddwrt build intended for the regular (worldwide) Archer C7 v2, so that it will flash on a US version Archer C7 v2 running stock TP-Link firmware.
If the attached build works for you, it can be further updated with any newer-than-28072 webflash build for the regular Archer C7 v2.
Disclaimer: I haven't tested the attached build myself, so I'm not responsible in any way if you brick your router.
Please only flash this build if you know how to unbrick it.
If you can't seem to manage to get DD-WRT flashed with that information at your disposal, let us know. I don't have one of these in hand, but this is not a new issue and it should be completely resolved already. _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

Described below is what I did to flash DD-WRT on a used TP-Link Archer C7v2 that I'd acquired for free in the US on April 2020. This particular C7v2 is hardware version 'Archer C7 v2 00000000' with firmware version '3.15.3 Build 180114 Rel.39265n' already installed. This installed build is the latest official downloadable version (dated 2018-05-14) available via TP-Link's support website (https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/download/archer-c7/v2/#Firmware). There's a note of interest, highlighted in red text, under official build 160719: "3. The US firmware was specialized for FCC certification and can't be downgraded to other version..." which indicated to me that the documented DD-WRT flashing prerequisite for installing build 150427 would not be possible anymore with the latest official build. Thus, I downloaded the latest DD-WRT version available at the time (factory-to-ddwrt-US_42910.bin), and flashed using the TP-Link web interface. The flash to DD-WRT was successfully completed, and I was able to upgrade subsequently with 'tplink_archer-c7-v2-US_r42925_20200418.bin' via the DD-WRT web interface when this build became available. This router has been in operations since then, with occasional upgrades to the most recently available versions typically on a monthly basis. This was my practical experience with my Archer C7v2, no guarantee that this would work for you... just an FYI, use this info at your own risks. Good luck!
