AFAIK, putty is the best one. I know it seems complex to use but it isnt.
**I have everything set up correctly and am willing to attempt another program if necessary.
What issues are you having with putty?
**I have everything set up and wired correctly and it still not working (read 2-4 posts back for update).

If you still have HyperTerminal, you may have to try that. TeraTerm is another option, so is KiTTY. Not sure how up-to-date your XP install is or why it's "thunk"ing, but if you're not going to try using Win7... you're going to high-center and bury that 4x4 you're standing on the tall skinny pedal of. _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

I am curious. could you send us a few pictures of your serial recovery setup?
**Not possible at this time...As stated before, wires soldered at card/board edge and paired to board as directed, usb cable good (I have 2 of them)...No shorts or stray strands of wire...Even used multiple known and tested cat 5 cables early on in this thread when trying other method...I have another desktop (dual boot win 7 and xp and will try that later today. I also have a win 10 laptop that I am "learning".

**I have no idea as to what you are saying or mean here.
It means you keep grinding your gears and stay stuck in one place because you will not move forward. Either move on to Win7 or continue standing on the throttle burying your rig in mud.

I cannot believe that I am back here!...
I was rummaging through the routers and switches that I have and ran across the bag containing my bricked E3000 router....
(BTW - Using windows 10 via laptop FYI)...
I attempted to ping the router and all packets lost....Pulling up a Firefox browser and doing the "192. etc etc etc" does nothing since the router isn't pinging and, still have the flashing power light....
