Hi guys, ok so my internet keeps going due to due my ISP being a dick lately. Problem is i have Alexa devices like bulbs and cams all over the my home. Now when my net goes off i lose control of those devices but i can USB tether to my pc and get online that way. Is there a way of sharing the net from my mobile phone to/with my router so i can control my wifi and devices in my home. I have googled it, it can be done, but no one is explaining it in noob terms. Hoping someone here can guide me through the process. Thanks guys, stay safe. Woof.

The only tethering option is for iPhone. If you don't have an iPhone, then it's a luck of the draw hoping that you can put the required kernel modules on a usb stick, load them during startup, and turn on tethering on your phone, etc.
Ok guys, thanks for your answers. I was hoping it would have been alot easier. In my stupidness i thought i woould plug the phone into my usb on router and just tether. Shame its not easier than those tuts you sent me. Anyways, much appreciated, stay safe, Doggy.

Well, in discussing something else that I misread with BrainSlayer, apparently some devices have all the required drivers in the firmware, but I received no answer as to which ones. There are specific kernel modules that are required to be present, and I do not see them in any kernel configs on public code repos. But this is something I have been meaning to look into having added for everyone's sake.
Hmm, the thing is, i am disabled and i depend up my computer and alexa/google, so when the net goes down i cant control my cameras, alarm or smart light bulbs. It would be great if i could plug my phone via a usb cable into the usb on the router and usb tether. I read the tuts i was given and shown but it was all just beyond me and i didnt want to mess my routers settings/network up. Virgin media is very temperamental lately here in England.

I presume that your SmartHome IoT devices must be able to phone home to work via whatever app interfaces with them, or it's the Virgin Media hub that has to be able to phone home or whatever. I guess we need to convince BrainSlayer to add support since the only other option is to use OpenWRT. _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

Well all i know is that i bought a TCP smart bulb, downloaded the app and connected it to my Alexa..... Now if my internet goes off in my road i lose all control of my wifi smart bulbs. I can manually turn them off and on but i lose the ability to turn them on or off with my voice and dim them with my voice to Alexa. No net = no router control. Im not a fan of OPenWRT, i love DD-wrt and the community , so hoping BrainSlayer adds this really handy routine into the firmware.
Well i bought an Alexa because it was such a handy bit of kit. Then i got some smart bulbs in my home, which came in handy being disabled. Then the interent went down and i had no control over those bulbs. Grrrr. I looked at OPEN-WRT, but i dont want to change to DD-WRT. I love the interface and its so easy to upgrade over PUTTY/Cli. :)

I am looking at a home automation system where everything runs on a Pi4 but it needs some work to get that setup, voice control seems even possible without anything going out to the internet.
Yeah, i took the easy way, plug and pray. Shame really because i hated Alexa/google but i must admit, its so handy. Just hate it when the net goes down and im left in the dark :( .
