what would be the best way to use a mobile phones internet for the router WAN \ internet connection?

i notice there is a iPhone optio under wan, but i suspect it wont work with android?

this would be more of a emergency option, say if the main line goes down so it should be easy to setup?

Question

Client mode – The radio interface is used to connect the Internet-facing side of the router (i.e., the WAN) as a client to a remote access point. NAT or routing are performed between WAN and LAN, like in "normal" gateway or router mode. Use this mode, e.g., if your Internet connection is provided by a remote access point, and you want to connect a subnet of your own to it.

but i get no network ap choice option?
config settings?

wireless "client mode" works as set above on the 2.4 radio and give wifi over the 5.0 radio.

but in the circumstance to not interrupt 2.4 radio only devices it would be best to tether via USB.

The link you provided is almost 9 years old

I stopped reading when I saw "Press reset button for 60 seconds" do not do that!

First have a look at the DDWRT wiki's although some are outdated it is usually a good starting point

Google "ddwrt wiki client mode" and the first item I see is:
https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Client_Mode_Wireless

Also look at:
https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linking_Routers

Connecting with USB to your phone is a hit or miss, Apple might work other phones maybe

Some useful reading:
The forum guidelines with helpful pointers about how to research your router, where and what to download, where and how to post and many other helpful tips:

thanks for your reply

if you finished reading you would find that link explained and got the client connection working with ease, i visited those other pages you linked which did not make it as clear and easy to follow and setup.

the links you supplied dont address the question, but thanks. i am looking for a more direct exact response not a general point in the direction on the subject which is now

easy way to usb hotspot an android phone and keep radios free.

quick guide to setup wifi client (connect to mobile AP)

in router settings:
goto status tab > wireless.
site survey > join your AP.
goto wireless tab > set wireless mode to client
goto wireless tab > wireless security.
choose your AP security type and enter password.
save, apply, reboot router.

you should see the router connect to the mobile AP if setup correct. and the WAN IP of the mobile AP in the top right.

Android tethering isn't very easy to set up without a custom DD-WRT build. This topic has been covered plenty of times in the forum...

Because the required kernel modules are not compiled and present in the firmware image or in the kernel itself in the firmware image since some routers with USB ports are 4MB flash size and something would have to be removed to make room for said kernel modules. Furthermore, kernel modules that are called by modutils commands shouldn't be compiled into the kernel because packages and features do not load modules that are compiled into the kernel, as noted by bugs and issues and debug messages. AFAIK, you can't insmod, modprobe, or use any modutils for modules compiled into the kernel. I am hoping that all of these code optimizations that have been happening will change this and that Android tethering will be a native feature for USB-equipped routers.

The shorter answer would've been, "Because BrainSlayer doesn't own an Android".

yes, it would be a great feature to have the ability for WAN redundancy, many ISP supply wired and mobile sim routers for interrupted service.

in the meanwhile the usb dongle sims may be a option too.
im surprised iphone tether was added but not android on a linux type device.

It was probably a choice of what the developer owns vs flash space on a WRT54* that has a USB port. And some things do not get re-visited without some prodding.

how does one niacinate a "prodding"

Mod Note 04.11.24: As of 55776/8 and later alpha and beta releases, Android USB Tethering is now included in DD-WRT for those routers which support it:

2024 - Android usb tethering to dd-wrt router?

Yeah, well, because of your inquiry, I again prodded about adding support for Android Tethering and:

Add ncm support

Android Tethering fixes

Should be in the next public release to test. CoolWink
