All,

I have a problem. Currently on 47618 on an R7800. My problem is the PS1 prompt is "silly". First off it does a "bing" sound on EVERY prompt. Second it is repeating the prompt of user@hostname and directory. so it looks like this when I am in /tmp

0;root@My_RouterB: /tmproot@My_RouterB:/tmp#

(yes the leading 0 is there always)

I looked at /etc/profile and find this
Code:
export PS1='\[\033[01;31m\]\u@\h\[\033[00m\]:\[\033[01;34m\]\w\[\033[00m\]\$ '

which would be GREAT. But when I log in via telnet and issue a set command I get this for PS1

Code:
PS1='\[\033]0;\u@\h: \w\a\]\[\033[01;31m\]\u@\h\[\033[00m\]:\[\033[01;34m\]\w\[\033[00m\]\$ '

Can anyone tell me where the PS1 variable is being reset if not from /etc/profile?

Is this in PuTTY or ? This might be an ssh / serial client configuration issue...

Well, I don't use Windows Telnet or Telnet in general because it is a security issue. So, this is likely not going to get fixed. Dead horse.

P.S. I don't follow most of tatsuya46's tickets or rants. Reasons should be painfully obvious.

Here is a list of emulators that can resolve your issue. Written on 9 Nov 2021, so it's about as recent as you could ask for. I can't make any recommendations though. I've been using Linux since '98 and OS/2 prior to that.
