I would like to know if it is possible to use dd-wrt to repeat a router with open encryption and to repeat as WPA.
My idea would be to use the dd-wrt as a Client to the open wifi network, then create a virtual interface that would broadcast/create a wifi encrypted network.

However, i am not sure if that would be possible.

Thank you

Yes it is, and typing on a search engine `dd-wrt as repeater` wielded

https://proprivacy.com/vpn/guides/how-use-an-old-dd-wrt-router-as-a-repeater

Please read the warning on post.

Im sure hows-to in forums exist however, if you browse around, this question has probably already been asked and answered too.

Be well.

If you have router specific questions please post in the appropriate forum for your router.

The General Questions forum is not for router help.

See the forum guidelines with helpful pointers:

Well, it looks it is not possible, at least with the help tutorial you provided

9. Go to the Wireless -> Wireless Security Tab and change the setting to match those of your network (primary router). Hit ‘Save’ and, finally, ‘Apply settings’.

Gladly i read it all.

Thanks

I read it that it must match the primary, so if that has no encryption you use no encryption (open) Smile

for most things DDWRT has wiki's (not always up to date Sad ):

It is possible and it works, the only note of worthy on the how-to was the WARNING at the end.

how to setup a dd-wrt router as a repeater wrote:
WARNING: setting up your router as a repeater in this way means that you will no longer be able to access its web interface. It is, therefore, a one-way operation, and if something goes wrong may result in a bricked router. It may be possible to mitigate against this by choosing "Repeater Bridge" in Step 8, as this should allow you to access the interface by connecting to the router over an Ethernet cable. But I haven't tested this.

In theory the web interface should remain accessible, and when all else fails, resetting the router would revert any settings to default, so you would access it like you usually do.

sidenote: I dont think any of this kind of configuration would brick a router, like the how-to writer suggested, bricking shouldn't happen when doing configurations, If this would be true, the firmware would be unusable, or the the router on its last legs of its flashrom life.

Router with dd-wrt as repeater works alright, unless using VAP's on Broadcom wifi. =)
A workaround for that also exists would you be in that category.

Good luck =)
