The serial header is installed and the region appears US or Canada, from the router's bottom label or sticker.

Which firmware version is installed on each partition? There is an option in troublshooting to restore previous.

http://192.168.1.1/sysinfo.cgi This might provide helpful info before or after restore (switching boot partition).

This is the back of router which has serial header installed. Pervious one already sold.
This one doesn't have any antennas. Should I buy this router? So I will need something like this Rs. 1,981 -19% | 6Pcs Wifi Dual Band Wireless Female Thread Network Peripheral 8DB RPSMA AC 2.4G / 5G | https://www.daraz.pk/products/6pcs-wifi-dual-band-wireless-female-thread-network-peripheral-8db-rpsma-ac-24g-5g-i210868209-s1417990053.html?dsource=share&laz_share_info=15976519_103_100_600002484813_14932326_null&laz_token=0bbabc477573b0bfeb6f5a9e6e4a44c4

Did you buy it? I don't think I would have, as the antennas sometimes go for as much as the complete router. There are plenty of 8500s on ebay. You can certainly find a better deal. Make sure you buy one where you can see the power supply. Square only. It has been said if the P/S is round(ed), it cannot be flashed. I have had great luck with the three that I have bought.

Same here. I'm 2 for 2 on getting devices with headers by checking the shape of the power supply. I just move on if it doesn't have the early blocky power supply. With a bit of patience, a few go on ebay each month for around $40 shipped. I end up paying a bit more for a shipping forwarding service to bring them to me in Vietnam, but still a steal for these things.

The issue is you don't know which power supply will be available with it, e.g the Asus RT-AC68U I using right now came with Lenovo power supply. Very Happy

The EA8500 with missing antennas is also missing its power supply too. 😜

Can you post an image of blocky power supply.

This is the more rounded PS they replaced it with, indicating it might not have the serial pins, or possibly even unflashabe via serial at all.

The earliest models also came in a different box, though these seem pretty uncommon. They pretty quickly switched to the more common packaging with green waves & the "100 million routers sold" badge.

@mrjcd in search of a cheap EA8500, I found a local networking gear repairman who has a stock of 25 EA8500 all with the issue of boot-loop/reboot. Does using serial to flash dd-wrt will fix it or not?

yousaf465,
I'm sure they could be fixed if they power on.

bootloop could be caused by many things ..
It would be nice to know exactly what happened to one before attempting repair or buying.

The years ago, BrainSlayer EA8500 'factory-to-ddwrt.img' would put one into an unending bootloop if you put such build on both partitions.
That is why, few years ago, we only use Kong builds for first install ... serial or otherwise.

BrainSlayer has fixed the EA8500 'factory-to-ddwrt.img' in last couple years ...can't remember exactly when... Cool

I would get 1 and try it if price is good.
If works ok then get all 25, fix & sell Twisted Evil

---
EDIT:
could be might have to replace some/all default settings ...stuff that is never supposed to be messed with.
It can be done but prolly not by a young, knowitall, basment dweller Razz

Nobody can tell you if any could easily be fixed without looking into it themselves.
Whomever this person is that has them, I would think, would fix and sell if could be done easily....but who knows Twisted Evil

I tried getting a good deal. He said the price will be USD25/4500PKR for a fixed router. I was in hurry so couldn't negotiate more. I have got his card will try another time.
