I have a 880L with Firmware Version
DD-WRT v3.0-r40559 (08/06/19)

I use it as my IoT AP, which is on a separate VLAN. Lovely.

It has never skipped a beat, and I have always used AP Isolation.

Recently I had to turn AP Isolation off to do some maintenance on a couple of clients.

I turned it back on (having changed nothing else on DDWRT or the router), and all my devices fell off the WiFi and couldn't reconnect.

I couldn't log on to the GUI via LAN either. The WAN light was still on and blue.

I had to hard reset the router, and with barebones config I was able to consistently reproduce the lock up but getting WiFi/internet, then enabling AP Isolation.

Actually I just experience the symptoms (from a working setup) making another change to the config. I simply changed the WiFi password.

So maybe it's the act of applying config that's getting it in a bad state.

I was making the config over WiFi.

Kindly please consider upgrading to a more recent release, like 47510. You also have to understand what happens when you click "Apply", like networking restarting. I really wish the disable webUI access over wifi worked, because of the situation you describe, because it's really not advisable, anyway. You clients should've been able to "forget network" and reconnect, if anything at all.

Thanks, and in retrospect it makes sense. I guess part of me has taken for granted it having worked before, and reliably over WiFi on my other devices (UDM Pro, ECW230, and indeed the Dlink OEM firmware itself).

Anyway. Lesson learned and thanks for the quick reply.

You said I should upgrade... but I was of the understanding I was at the mercy of there being a customised bin file.

Am I mistaken? Dev for this unit seems to have stopped a long time ago. But it's a fantastic router still.

Not sure what you mean by development stopping for the DIR-880L. DD-WRT itself has been in constant development since 40559 and I linked the current firmware images for that device. The dir880-webflash.bin is the one used to upgrade from the webUI. You'll have to clarify what you mean...

Ah OK I didn't see the link against your signature. Thanks for that. I'll check it out.

Last time I looked the 880l discussion thread was well and truly dead and I couldn't find a newer firmware.

Flashed the firmware. Seems a little less buggy. Though crucially I can't set VLAN properly. It says all my ethernet ports are disconnected, which is a lie because I'm connected to one, with Internet... and WAN connected to another.

I have internet DHCP from my UDMP pro but it's on the same subnet.

When I try to set VLAN 11 it fails to get a WAN IP from my UDM Pro.

The UI has changed slightly. Apart from the port disconnected graphic. It seems like I can't set VLAN tagged to bridge to the switch like I could before.

Previously the port assignment was backwards. WAN was lan0 (I think). What was displayed as port 4, was actually physically my WAN. Not sure what's what now with no connection indicator.

Have you reset to defaults after upgrading and put settings in manually?

Have you refreshed your browser cache?

All necessary things when coming from an old build.

VLANS have changed considerably, you now have to use swconfig from command line although for some broadcom routers the switch page (after resetting and refreshing) might work.
The old nvram method no longer works.

Port order has been corrected for some routers

No joy. VLAN seems inoperable.

Try a hard reset ('nvram erase && reboot') so that all the applicable nvram variables are rebuilt properly.
