Greetings all,

Bought a used Linksys EA6300 at Goodwill for $10. Brought it home, powered it up and was asked to put in a password. So I proceeded to press the reset key to try to reboot the router - and the reset key does not work! I connected an ethernet cable to it and it does have an internet connection.

My question - is there a way to reboot the router by means other than the reset key?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

is it on stock firmware or DD-WRT? Only option I can think of is via serial recovery if the usual default username and password do not work.

Thank you kernel-panic69. It is on stock firmware. Wouldn't serial recovery require a password also (assuming using PuTTy)?

No, it would not. You could possibly try to tftp flash stock firmware to it as well; that may unlock it. They probably disabled the reset button and then forgot the password. Serial recovery may only require clearing the nvram to re-enable the reset button and default login.

This link may help identify serial pinout if it's not in the thread above (I am trying to find that info)

Update: I used TFTP and flashed the Linksys OEM firmware successfully. However, it did not recycle the sign in, so instead of "admin", "root", or "password", it still asked me for the previous password.

I think if I flash a dd-wrt firmware, I would then be able to put in a new user ID and password - but I would like to use the stock firmware on this router. So, my question is - if I flash it with a dd-wrt firmware, would I be able to revert it back to Linksys stock firmware?

Thank you in advance.

The default username and password is admin/admin on stock firmware. TFTP flash should have cleared that. You can try TFTP factory-to-dd-wrt for this router and should be able to flash directly back to stock firmware, but I don't see why you'd want to do that.

Thank you d33b0_n4p41m for your response. I have other routers that have dd-wrt on them. I just wanted to try the stock firmware this time to see if there's any difference in performance.

Speaking of dd-wrt firmware, in your experience, which recent build you find to be a stable firmware with good performance?

It is my understanding that the developer prefers feedback on the most recent release; no one person in this community can force people to report in the release threads, therefore this question is sometimes difficult to answer directly. I will purvey some food for thought from one of the forum moderators; but please take no offense to any content ^_^

Thank you both (Alozaros and d33b0_n4p41m) for your suggestions (much appreciated). I usually don't go for the latest build because I don't want to deal with reboots and such Shocked, plus I'm not really that system-savvy anyways Embarassed

I'm failing to see what you would have to deal with on latest releases other than too many Chicken Littles.

Hi, I have simillar problem - reset works, but I can't log in (and flash dd-wrt), because it wants non default password. Any solution?

/solved: Use old brower, with IE it works OK.
