I'm aware that there are issues with webupgrades from the UI.

When flashing an upgrade from the CLI should we use the full image or the webupgrade one?

I have searched the board but can't find the answer to this one. Apologies in advance if I've missed a post that mentions this.

The only issues I know of are flashing over https. Perhaps someone else can clarify.

Thanks for the reply @kernel-panic69.

I do have https enabled but had not tried to flash via the UI. I could always disable it and try.

Web upgrade worked with https disabled. Would prefer to keep it enabled, but if disabling and re-enabling does the trick, sobeit.

You cannot flash the same way via command line on x86.... you would have to dd it... I forget every so often because I do other flash based devices but as BS nicely reminded me one time:

Quote:
write cannot be used for x86 images. use webflash or the .image file using dd to your physical drive. write is made for flash based devices and has a different firmware format. you may also use "writetool" to write a .image file to the current boot drive

I was waiting for you, flood404, or one of the others running x86 to chime in. I just knew that https webflash was a no-go.

Thanks KP!

Yeah, I am not sure why https breaks but on reboot you get an error number and it never boots...

And just for when people find this thread, if doing via command line using writetool, the syntax is:

Code:

writetool dd-wrt_x64_public_vga.image  /dev/sda

in my case it is /dev/sda because I have nothing else, but be careful! I have a sata drive, so that is why it is sda but could be others depending on your device, but you are selecting the DRIVE that dd-wrt is installed on (not a specific partition)

and use the image and not the webupgrade file

Sorry a year late on this subject. Yeah I never use https for accessing the webgui or flashing to newer builds. I keep seeing a user reporting that https access crashes while updating the software on x86. I never seen if x64 is affected or not. Which I am sure it is. I just change ports from :8080 to something else and disable any remote IP access option.

On another note. If your using Avast disable the protection shields while doing anything with dd-wrt. It will block flash updates with error connection reset messages.

I always flash with the web upgrade download through the web ui and never reset. I use a an nvme drive in an enclosure on sata. Two things I do though is disable wifi and turn off my vpn. 'Knock on wood' haven't had a problem yet.
