My WRT1900ACv2 is now 5 years old, running happily on DD-WRT v3.0-r44048 std (08/02/20)

I have recently acquired a Fritzbox 7590 from my internet service provider, I noticed it has MU-MIMO! I still user the WRT1900ACv2 upstairs.

I know the WRT1900ACv2 does not support MU-MIMO, but I believe the WRT3200ACM or WRT32X models do. I would like to use DD-WRT again but just wondering if MU-MIMO is supported in DD-WRT?

Can anybody confirm if its working? If it is then I may just upgrade my WRT1900ACv2.

Buying another Marvell device is probably a waste of money. Your money is better spent on:
Quote:
Netgear R9000 (rebrand is XR700)

Netgear R7800 (rebrand is XR500 and XR450)

Netgear R7500v2 (or Linksys EA8500)

Most recommended: R7800 or R9000.

Perfectly happy with Marvell thanks very much.

Just wanted to know if MU-MIMO is supported or not.

Seems like the open source drivers don't support mu-mimo and since driver development has stopped it is doubtful if they ever will.

MU-MIMO has little advantage anyway as it usually doesn't work properly and is client dependent.

between similar chipsets from the same manufacturer it can work well

in mixed environments it tends to cause problems

and your Fritzbox has an Atheros WLAN CHIP

Thanks for that, Must say that I do not notice much of a difference anyway if I am connected via wifi on the Fritzbox or the WRT1900AC.

Speedtests are virtually on par with each other too.

I guess there is no point in upgrading to the 3200AC right now. I will stick to my tried and trusted WRT1500AC

I am pretty impressed with the Fritzbox though, its user interface is very nice and its pretty simple to setup.

I run a 3200ACM with wifi enabled on the latest builds. I was able to finally get past 44048 by reseting it, rebooting it, reseting it again, reloading both partitions, reseting it again... Maybe it's voodoo but wifi works now. I haven't been so lucky with my 1900ACSv1 - but I'll try again soon.

The only advantage to the 3200ACM, and why I keep it, is it has the CPU horsepower to run an openvpn or wireguard client much faster than a 1900ACSv1. On the latest builds, my wireguard client performance (to mullvad servers) is about 750mbit down and 550mbit up.

If you are not running a vpn client, then I would stay put.

I use a DNS forwarder, dont bother with vpns as they caused too much trouble.

I went with the WRT3200 bc as it says on the box, it is open source friendly. Hence dd-wrt which is WRT by Linksys. LOL
