I gave myself another challenge....
I don't know if this is the best place for my question, but I'd love to hear from you.
At home my daughter has a google nest and a chromecast in her room.
However, anyone who is on a home network can view and partially operate the devices via the Google Home App. We can hide the chromecast, but this is not possible with the nest (mini).
I made a guest wifi network for her, but this doesn't solve the 'problem'. Apparently the use of the same gateway is the cause.
I once equipped a linksys router with ww-drt for a vacation to use as a wifi extender. That went fine.
So I thought maybe I could use another gateway for my daughter through this router.
However, after many evenings of trying I get stuck. Only have modest PC knowledge and certainly not much network knowledge.
What I managed to do is to provide the linksys with internet from my main router via port 1 of the linksys router. The linksys then broadcasts another gateway and ip address.
But the problem is that with this way the wifi strength on the main network is only 10 mbs. As soon as I disconnect the linksys the wifi strength is 80 mbs again.
I've read a lot and tried some things, but because I'm quite inexperienced with network settings I can't figure it out.
Is this idea the right way to make the google nest invisible and what is the right way to set up the linksys but in the right way so that the wifi signal on original network continues to work well?

It would help to know router model(s) and which version(s) of DD-WRT you are running. I presume it is not possible to use wired connection between routers? _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

Thnx, sorry for late reply.
I reconnected my linksys to check the version and my internet was down... Had to restart some routers/switches in house and office outside....
But i am online again.
I will install newer software on the linksys.
On my isp router Experia box VRV9517 (Dutch KPN isp) i cannot get to AP isolation. This router is kept with verry little options for users.
Nice dutch language....
I'm sorry, very noob...
I installed the latest version for dd wrt it worked fine. I checked to see if i could see any diffrences, but somehow the linksys got screwed up. I try to reset it, but whatever i try, i cannot reset it.....
Power led keeps blinking....

Ack (@#$%^&*!). That is the sign of a brick, if I am not mistaken. You will likely have to try tftp flash to the previous version (or the version below). I don't think you have to start over from the procedure in the wiki once you have DD-WRT on it. I may have steered you wrong and you may have chosen the wrong file. Since nobody is reporting on these on more recent builds, I have no way of knowing which build to recommend outside of 14929 per Peacock thread, save and except one other recommendation I saw for 46640.
Don't ask me how, but last night it was 3.30 am with no result. This evening after many many tries back on track.
Got my linksys router fixed with dd-rtw Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r46640 micro (05/13/21)
It works and its stable (so far i can tell)
I conected it to my isp router
(Linksys port 1)
On linksys router (dd-wrt) disabled dhcp server,
set linksys ip adress in range of isp router and set linksys gateway same as gateway isp router.
When i connect my laptop to port 3 of linksys router i get internet. Speedtest shows 80mbs (same as isp router.)
When i connect my laptop wireless to linksys router i get internet. Speedtest shows 13mbs (70 mbs on isp router)
This is the status update so far.
Hope you can help me out with the next step to hide the google nest mine.

In wired AP/switch mode the ISP router likely won't see it because it's not a dhcp client. Not sure why you would want to complicate things by using AP/switch mode if you're wanting to isolate your daughter's room from the rest of the network better; however, you can try AP isolation on the WRT54G Linksys via the WebUI, "Save", and "Reboot" (you can try "Apply" and wait a few minutes, perhaps...). _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

I will try it.
Any idea why wifi internet is only 12 mbs via the linksys?
I dont want to make things complicated, so if you have better idea for hidding the nest mini i will be gladd to hear. But maybe thats tot much off toppic for this forum?
