I got a used (but still functional) TL-WR940N v1 router, now i want to install a vpn on it but my router dont natively support it so i want to flash my router with dd-wrt firmware but i dont know which version should i choose for my router this old
The other thing to be aware of is VPN throughput. Using a VPN on any router is taxing on the CPU. A single-core CPU ~750MHz will only handle about ~30MB/s through a VPN. A router with a CPU under that is probably not even worth it.
This has been proven using TP-Link Archer C7, for example. That router does have support for OpenVPN and WireGuard (not sure about WireGuard).
In order to get ~100MB/s throughput through a VPN you need a dual-core router like a Netgear R7800 (dual-core, 1.4GHz). _________________ Before asking a question on the forums, update dd-wrt: Where do I download firmware? I suggest reading it all.
