I want to replace an old Windows server which has a single NIC that is connected to a Juniper SRX210. This server's only purpose right now is a DHCP server.

All the devices on the network are physically connected to the Juniper rather than the server. Is it possible for a dd-wrt router to be used to replace this old Windows server for DHCP only?

Why don't you just configure the SRX210 for this?

This Windows server has been in place for a decade and head office has added additional hardware to the mix including the Juniper and other hardware. They control access to and the configuration of the SRX210.

The server was being used for software access to multiple computers on the LAN but that has been moved to a web iterface.

I could contact HO and be on site to remove the old server if they can remote into the Juniper and take over DHCP.

I've never tried setting up DD-WRT to serve only as a dhcp server and dns proxy, but I happened to have found this article from 2018 about how to do it. I just don't see why the person over-complicated it, though. Everything can be done in the webUI as far as dhcp range and the listen address and dns-server lines are not required; by default the router's IP address is both the listen address and dns server address that is handed out to clients. I swear, nothing like finding a mostly good write-up that's sorta wrong Rolling Eyes

Ok thanks. Appreciate it. Ya been down that road before where you follow a series of steps and wonder why they are doing some of the steps or they forget a step and you are left wondering why something does not work.
