Hello,
I am flashing my router for the first time, or attempting to at least, but I simply can't get past 1% on the firmware upgrade page. I have read the peacock thread inside out, as well as the wrt310nv2 wiki and pretty much every other thread related to my router, with absolutely no success.
my router is the Linksys WRT310Nv2 running stock Linksys firmware (v 2.0). It's never run custom firmware before.
Many threads speak of a 'management page' with an option to reset nvram after doing a hard reset, I cannot seem to access this page on my router? It brings me to basic setup (the generic Linksys management page) every time after trying:
30/30/30 about 100 times, 5 second reset, 15 second reset, 30 second reset, 60 second reset, 90 second reset, I have held the refresh button on the front of the router for 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 60 seconds, 90 seconds. I have refreshed my browser 100 times after resetting router, cleared cache, rebooted computer as well as router, turned off firewall and anti-virus, used different Ethernet cables. I used the 'Restore Defaults' option under 'Administration' in my router's management page. The only thing I haven't tried is a different computer, since I don't have access to one right now. I use IE to access the management page in Windows 7 professional. I have also tried Chrome but my understanding is that's a no-no.
I can't seem to find downloads for the builds suggested in the peacock thread/wrt310nv2 wiki, I guess they are outdated, I have attempted to flash my router with these builds:
21061 is the one listed in the database. (The database says my router has 0 mb of ram and 0 mb of flash... I don't think that's correct...) It is my understanding I need to flash a virgin 310n with the mini build that has the name of my router listed in the filename. Please correct me if I am mistaken.
I found build 24461 in another thread about wrt310nv2.
Since I can't get to the mystical 'management page' that doesn't seem to exist after attempting every hard reset I have heard of, I attempted to flash from the 'Administration - Firmware Upgrade' section of my router's generic management page (perhaps they are the same thing?) but again, it fails at 1% every time (actually one time it went to 2% before it failed - I almost kicked my dog jumping for joy).
I have heard say of a legend that I may have to run a 'kill firmware' build first, but I am unable to find that anywhere.
Does anyone have the slightest clue what I'm doing wrong???? Perhaps someone could tell me how to access the older builds so that I might try those? Did I miss this gravy train by a few years?
I'm attempting to avoid buying a bridging device but I'm ready to give up now and buy one if I can't get this to go
You should consider installing an ftp client such as WinSCP, as I don't think Chromium-based browsers will open Firefox to navigate FTP links.
Also, as my esteemed colleague @egc said, please read the forum rules and guidelines as well as all of the announcements and stickies. You can never do enough reading on this forum or in the wiki. _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"
