I've seen for certain models that they are showing some of the almost latest beta releases in the downloads database

How do the system knows that is a working firmware or if it won't be buggy enough or unusable?

Is there any beta testing somewhere that is validating builds for certain models?

We post build release threads for no purpose, whatsoever. If people are *not* flashing and reporting for your router, then that is not our problem. We encourage everyone in the community to flash and report.

Basically, the idea is to use the search function within the build threads to know if someone has reported anything about a particular router.

Thanks.

That is the goal, rather than have device threads on the forum that turn into 200 pages of a cumbersome cesspool of information to sift through to find answers. My apologies for being a little curt and sarcastic, but this is a well-discussed topic that seems to not be understood very well.

Considering that there are thousands of routers I can't think on the best way to tackle this.

But surely I have to admit that is not intuitive enough for newcomers, unless you have been long enough in the forum to get this.

For example, something similar happens with Kodi/OpenElec boxes, but the difference is that most of the times, the own brands have their forums with the sub forums for each model, something than on router doesn't happen.

Personally, I've always preferred the XDA-Developers style that also gives an extremely great insight for mobile buyers on which routers and development have a more active community so is easier for many people to be tilted to that side.

1)There are many many supported brands and models of routers, some very recently launched, and some legacy and/or capped
2)Different people use different gear for different purposes
3)Every recent build is a "beta"
Therefore I think no one here can recommnend a build good for everything. And that's why the answer to

Is to look on the Wiki and/or the database to check whether a device is supported.

But if you actually mean "which firmware is good for certain model?" that requires much more research and testing. and deppends on whether one define "good" as "fast" or "stable" or "secure" for a given scenario, or "with all the bells and whistles". So as already answered, it's not easy to tell.
And in this line of thinking we invite people to try and report for the benefit of other users.

There are like +100 supported routers, all the way back to the beginning WRT54G still.

Looking at ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2021/ beta builds can be released one or two days maybe seven.

Is it realistic users are going to be updating their routers every week... for the context of reporting which builds may/not work with each model.

Now there are almost infinite (not really) configurations mixes varying from basic function to running something so advanced only they can understand.

I find one user saying "no problem" another "<something specific> didn't work" with the same build. Well I reset... I had settings from a build last year... I thought I knew what I was doing. Just because someone post, do I value their experience?

Looking to come back to dd-wrt, old or new user -- I realized it's not possible to test everything, but it's not actually as simple as - just search for your router in new build threads, to find which is a valid option. If no one flashed/posted you're SOL.

The wiki specifically boldly says not to use the database...yet there's still a database wtf.

It's kind of like, if you don't know, this isn't for you.
Confused

We, the moderation team, have no control over the database content. I was specifically told by both the site admin team and the lead developer that it only gets updated when there is a unanimously decided on stable build. We convinced them to put a disclaimer on the landing page for the router database, which gets completely overlooked and then we have these same questions that are covered in the wiki. The router database is useful to see if your router is supported, *if* you read the entire landing page and comprehend it's contents and linked information.

At this point, I am locking this thread with the fair warning that asking what is the latest and what is the stable build, etc. in a new post will result in the thread self-destructing and disappearing. There is no lack of information on this forum or in the wikis; there are only lazy people.
