Hi. I am looking for a cheap router with Atheros 802.11n 3x3:3 radio and Gigabit LAN ports to use only as AP/VAP with DD-WRT. I have looked at the TP-Link TL-WR1043ND v2.x (QCA9558 @ 720MHz WiSoC) and TL-WDR4900 v1.x (Freescale P1014 @ 800MHz with AR9381 and AR9580-5GHz radios).

What LAN-WLAN speeds could expect from those routers with DD-WRT? (No NAT, no Firewall, no QoS).

Currently i'm using old ISP router as an AP with WiSoC BCM63168. I can reach with it +200Mbps LAN-WLAN (clients connects at 300Mbps). The wireless environment is very clean on both bands.

I still have an Atheros Super-G PCI wireless card (AR5001G if i can remember). Can this card connect at 108Mbps with these routers and DD-WRT or does Super-G only supported by legacy G chipsets?

Thanks for the help.

1043v2 is excellent unit...i have few of them...sadly no 5Ghz radio..but its N performance is great..
Lan-Wlan with correct settings and client it says 450Mbit (if you find 3x3 stream client)..in the past, the max speed i've seen with 3x3 client was around 300Mbit, i haven't test it recently...

TL-WDR4900 i've never had this unit, but i know its not the best TP link unit and i've seen odd reports on it...

Thanks. If 1043NDv2 can deliver 300Mbps with 3x3 clients it must have enough CPU power to reach 200Mbps with 2x2 clients.

Do you know what problems WDR4900v1 presents? I am interested in this unit not only because it has 5Ghz, but of its powerful PPC CPU.

yep WDR4900 has a better specs, ive no idea how good is its 5gz radio, as well i've no idea how better is Freescale P1014 vs Qualcomm QCA9558

https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/perf_and_log/benchmark.openssl

my 1043v2 is a rock solid with DDRWT, but only for basic needs, if you want performance/stability get
Archer C7 v2, v3 ,v4 or Netgear R7800...

https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=887346

to be honest I haven't seen many reports about WRD4900 recently..so, no idea where is its development/stability at the moment...

I have 200 -210 mbps available from my ISP and regularly get about 185 mbps with many cheap 2.4GHZ cards inside the house with my TL-WR1043ND ver.2. Rock solid and stable on build r46885.

Super G is a proprietary atheros channel bonding method (2x 54Mbit channels, NOT compatible with 40Mhz wide upper/lower extension channel!) for basic 54Mbit g only hardware. Other chipsets used incompatible 125Mbit g extensions. It was never a common standard, it was licensed to some hardware manufacturers, was replaced by draft-n. Your success for 108Mbit should differ with the router hardware and firmware installed. Don't expect anyone is testing compatibility anymore. I have trashed my last super-g adapter 5 years ago...

I ask because the DD-WRT wiki on the QCA Wireless Settings page mentions it:

Quote:
In order to utilize the Super-G feature you must have a QCA router capable of broadcasting 40 MHz wide channels which nearly all QCA routers support this feature, and a Super-G ready client. If you have a QCA router and Super-G ready client, ensure your wireless network mode is on Mixed, G-Only or "NG-Mixed" with Wide HT40 (40 MHz) as the channel width. The client should now connect at the theoretical max link rate of 108 Mbps, doubled that of standard 802.11g 54 Mbps. This feature reaches these speeds by channel bonding, a method that bonds two 20 MHz wide channels together similar to how 802.11n does.

I don't know if it's a mistake.

Super-G is still available in some routers (QCA 9XXX, I think). Don't enable it unless you actually need it. It is definitely not tested anymore.
