I disagree and am opposed to this.
*There is someone right now in this world that is able to take care of whatever task it is that fell in their lap because "public sharing without a password" made it possible for them to fix/solve it easily* _________________ For people who are new to the dd-wrt forums >> http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html#rtfm

Currently being used as a NAS and Access point with DHCP forwarder connected to a mikrotik non-ddwrt router.
Errors: Drive shows it has been successfully mounted in "USB" tab. But when I try to set up shares in samba and miniDLNA, it does not show the proper path to the drive. it only shows "/mnt".
I did try to work with it by setting path to "/mnt" and then typing in subdir "/sda2/" But the share was not showing up.
I logged ito the router via WINSCP and use the "SCP" file protocal to access the router.
I went to the directory "/tmp/mnt/sda2" but saw nothing there. I also went to the "/mnt" directory but saw nothing either.

Did I mess up something? how am I supposed to set this up? or is this a problem with dd-wrt?

I use all my data shares with password. I am providing this info, not complaining about it.
Using earlier build I was able to connect the NAS share using guest. now it has stopped. While connecting my firestick/samba player, it becomes a tedious to connect. for some purposes you may need guest access.
This topic has been discussed a lot n I am not complaining. I am just putting up the fact when upgrading a new firmware.
if you look at conf file, you can see
[NAS]
comment = NAS
path = /mnt/sda3
read only = no
guest ok = yes
this should provide guest access. which it is not.

ksmbd is rather picky
If it is an ntfs partition it might be "dirty" and then it refuses to mount.
For this the solution should be to run chkdsk (from a PC)
Ran check disk on the ntfs drive. the drive is now being listed under the file sharing and miniDLNA section.
the only problem I am now dealing with is trying to set the netbios name for the router. its still showing dd-wrt instead of another name.

Maybe the netbios name is the router name from setup page?
Mine shows EA8500 which is the routers name.
However I could only get to my share using its IP address It asks for a password with user root when trying to access via the Netbios name, maybe I should make a user with username root ?
Maybe the netbios name is the router name from setup page?
yeahuh, that's correct
---------
Did BS change sompin with SAMBA again. I have not tried last couple releases cause r46885 working very well.
I access read/write SAMBA from WIN10 or Debian without a problem many times per day.
I do not have mine as 'Public' ... must have username/PW
just showing my SAMBA config ---
Maybe the netbios name is the router name from setup page?
Yes, I have been changing that. I did multiple nvram resets with each firmware have been flashing to my r7500v2 and it either works or it does not.
Does brain slayer not have an R7500v2? I been reading some high praise here about r7800. Maybe I should donate my r7500v2 and just buy another one? or another r7800? idk. _________________ For people who are new to the dd-wrt forums >> http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html#rtfm
