Hello,

I have a Netgear Nighthawk X4 R7500v2 running DD-WRT v3.0-r44483

With this build everything works well, but I have noticed that every 2-3 days or so the throughput I get on a wifi connection drops dramatically. This happens on both 2.4ghz/5ghz, sometimes at the same time, (very possible I don't notice one for a bit) sometimes only one (I'll switch and the other bandwidth is fine).

This doesn't vary by distance from router. Its the entire range that is slowed to a near halt with poor local network speeds (I use local network storage a lot). Sitting in the room with the router running smoothly I see speedtest results of around ~300Mbs down ~500Mbs up, but when it slows this speed is more around the range of ~5-15Mbs down ~20-30Mbs up.

At the same time all my wired lan connections are fine with no issues. When this happens I have found the best way to resolve it is a reboot.

I have tried setting permanent channels based on scans to rule out interference, but the issue still occurs.

I should also mention that on older builds I have had the same problem, I don't remember exactly what these were but I believe they were 2018 builds.

My Wifi Settings:
5GHz

2.4Ghz

Just to clarify with you, You understand this is experimental firmware, yes?

You could also turn off the wifi on that router and just replace it with a separate access point like one made by Ubiquiti.

Or just go Mikrotik overall if you're mainly focused on routing and use dd-wrt for your NAS.

Yeah I do, sorry wasn't trying to suggest it wasn't.

I posted to see if anybody else had anything like this happen with this model or otherwise. Just looking for possible solutions/troubleshooting

What you can try is upgrading to the latest build and use Vanilla Firmware (it is in the wifi settings page)

Furthermore see the optimal settings page ( a sticky in this forum):

To get the best out of DDWRT and the forum read the forum guidelines with helpful pointers:

If you have not already read the forum guidelines, please do !!

The latest build, 46958, breaks NAS. at least for the 7500v2. I tried to see if I could do a workaround to get NAS shares up again and I could not. even after a factory reset.

satomo says he uses NAS a lot. So this firmware may not be for him.

Then use e.g. 46885, that is why I included the forum rules which points to always read the build threads Smile

I stopped testing it long ago, I use a QNAP pro 453 with 4 times 8 TB Smile

For my family members I still build with Samba36, that said I have a USB stick on my EA8500 (running 46968 alpha build) and it can be accessed but only by IP address and if you make a user Sad

On paper ksmbd is great

Thanks for the tips!!

I actually just use a samba share on a server for all my network storage so breaking the routers nas support isn't a big deal for me.

I think I will backup and attempt to move to latest build this weekend. Will follow up if I see an improvement.
