I am running 46446 std (04/24/21) on an Netgear R7000 router and have a problem with Status, LAN, Active Clients. Late last night I checked on the router and noticed that there were many Active Clients listed on the network that had been WiFi clients earlier but had left the network hours before. I assumed that when devices leave their WiFi connection to the network they also leave the Active Clients list on Status, LAN. This has not been the case with this release.

Any ideas? Is there a workaround to make sure the list only represents active devices on the network? Is this a bug? Should I move to a new release?

Other than this one issue, the router is running great.

I am defining the network directly with Dnsmasq commands on Services, Services, Additional Dnsmasq Options and have turned off the DHCP Server on Setup, Setup, Network Address Server Settings (DHCP). Here are the Dnsmasq commands:
Code:
interface=br0,br1
dhcp-option=br0,6,8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4
dhcp-option=br1,6,8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4
dhcp-leasefile=/tmp/dnsmasq.leases
dhcp-lease-max=2000
dhcp-option=br0,3,192.168.a.1
dhcp-option=br1,3,192.168.b.1
dhcp-authoritative
dhcp-range=br0,192.168.a.100,192.168.a.149,255.255.255.0,360m
dhcp-range=br1,192.168.b.8,192.168.c.254,255.255.248.0,120m

br1 is defined on Setup, Networking and Setup, Switch Config.

Was this via a page refresh that you noticed this? Cleared cache? Auto-refresh doesn't always make them disappear.

I just saw this on the web page. At the bottom it says:

Auto-Refresh is On

Is there a way to clear the cache?

I think it is a cache issue because this router is at a swim club in California. Its almost 6:00 PM here and the facility has emptied out. However, there is a large number of devices still listed on Status, LAN, Active Clients.

I'm running v46380, and this same thing has been happening with my Netgear r8000.

A router reboot clears it all out. There must be some command line mechanism I can set up on cron to clear the cache and not make a router reboot the only workaround.

Yes. A reboot does clear it out. But the same problem remains, at least for me. It was fixed for you?

To be at least somewhat descriptive, I turned off a phone awhile back and it remains in the active lease list. I waited a few minutes just to be sure. Satisfied its not going anywhere, I trashcan its lease. Then the phones MAC remains in the active lease list, while its hostname turns into an asterisk. Turning the phone back on brings the hostname back in place of the asterisk. Peculiar.

I assumed it was a symptom of a wider problem, since this isn't the only issue I'm having but I'm not gonna hijack your thread. Smile For now, I'm just letting you know you're not alone.

I meant browser cache, not dhcp client lease db cache.

360 minutes is 6 hours; If they were there longer than 3 hours, the lease renewed, so it may take up to 12 hours for the lease to clear. If it's public wi-fi, set it for an hour lease time.

@jay ray: You are probably using the default lease time of 12 or 24 hours, whichever it is, I presume.

Dhcp leases are independent of the wifi connections.
They will expire with their own timeouts.

Do we no longer make a distinction between "active clients" and "DHCP leases"? There used to be, not long ago. For all the years I've been using DD WRT, a host would drop off the "active client" table once they disconnected.

Yes, the client's lease would remain in the "DHCP leases" table until the timer ran out. This seems both reasonable and useful information.

The fact that clients are remaining in the "active client" list, even when they are not active, suggests that there was a recent change, and perhaps not one that was intended.

There is a possibility that this anomaly ties into other configuration settings for wireless.

I don't think it's the browser cache issue as I refreshed the Status, LAN page multiple times with both Chrome and Firefox and got the same result.

I do think its a problem not clearing the DHCP cache when wireless devices disconnect as it resets on reboot.

I have reset my lease times for br1 down to 60 minutes. Lets see what happens one to two hours later after client device disconnect.
