I recently (about 6-9 months ago) had reason to segregate my home network into a personal / work typed split.
I thought this may help someone having speed issues with the Archer C7 on the 5Ghz spectrum.
The company I work for was hit by a ransomware infection and I did not want to spread it to my home network inadvertently. So I setup another nic on my router and used a subnet that could not route to my home network without a bridge AND created some fancy firewall rules that ensured it was so.
Since that time I have been getting anywhere from 20-60Mbps down/18-20Mbps up on the Archer C7 I used to create the isolated Work LAN / wifi network. No cool since my ISP speed is 150Mbps/20Mbps. The wired LAN speed has always been 150Mbps/18-20Mbps on the C7.
My laptop is the only device that ever uses this WIFI connection.
The C7 is running Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r40189 std (07/04/19).
Today I finally had the time and incentive to manually configure the routers wifi.
To accomplish my goal I manually configured the WIFI using the following:
2.4Ghz radio = off (it's not used and buggy anyways)
5Ghz radio = on
Wireless Network mode = AC only
Channel width = Wide HT40 (40Mhz)
Wireless Channel = 157 (5785Mhz) (when using lower channels I get no more than 60Mbps)
Extension Channel = Upper (when lower selected max speed was 58Mbps)
Advanced checkbox = Checked
Regulatory Domain = US (I tried Canada and was stuck at 27Ghz - I am in Canada)
tx power - 30 (I changed this from 16 to 30 and reboot - before reboot and change I was getting 74Mbps on fast.com)
I know that to some this makes no sense but, it is what it is and, the fast.com speed test does not lie. If I revert all to auto - I go back to the 20-60Mbps speeds. If I set up like this I get full ISP bandwidth of 150/20.
The channel I chose was also the channel that was selected automatically and there is only one other device using it in my area according to Inssider and it is my neighbor who is at least 200 yards way from my house.
I hope this helps someone and THANK YOU to the developers of this wonderful software. I have donated in the past and will continue to do so.

Wide HT40 is not true AC. VHT 80 is, Channel 149 Upper upper or Channel 161 lower lower.
I always set tx power to 50dbm, it will hit the hardware max then.
Regulatory domain Canada is better than US, use it if you are in Canada.
advanced - Enable Short Preamble
I also avoid the AC-only setting. I use AC/N only.
Weird that you say the 2.4GHz is buggy. I find it fine.
PS: update to a newer build. That build is more than 2 years old. _________________ Before asking a question on the forums, update dd-wrt: Where do I download firmware? I suggest reading it all.
