New to ddwrt but it has been running stable for 6 months on Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r40559 std (08/06/19) on an EA6700. I've noticed the "hidden network" but couldn't figure out what that was from. Now suddenly, I have the same SSID with a space and a 2 after it showing up. Worst part is it is unsecured and probably something I did without knowing it. It shows 2.4 GHz IPv6 according to windows when I bring up the properties. I only have wl0 [2.4 GHz] and wl1 [5 GHz] and NO virtual AP's. Further, I have IPV6 disabled.

Any suggestions on what am I missing here? Nothing in the interface that I have seen tells me I have an unsecured SSID but I was looking at things and may have made a change and not realized it.

try switching off router and check whether the "Hidden" network is still showing in SSID list. might be possible that it is from any other device

These questions can better be asked in the appropriate forum which is broadcom in your case

To get the best out of DDWRT and the forum read the forum guidelines with helpful pointers:

If you have not already read the forum guidelines, please do !!

Your build is a notorious bad one, see the forum guidelines, not saying that that is your problem but you might consider upgrading

Thanks. I did do that, and in fact switching off does make the open SSID disappear as well as the hidden one.

For fun I took the backup config I made just after setting it up and loaded that. The open SSID no longer appeared, but the hidden one did. I reloaded the current config and the open SSID re-appeared.

Based on this, I believe it to be a config change that was made but I did not realize I made somehow. I do not have a backup with other changes I have since made or I would simply restore that one. My options are to go back to the last backup and try and recreate all the changes I've had to make to accommodate last minute remote learning for the kids or try to kill this open SSID. I'm hoping to find whatever setting but fear it may not be presented via the GUI and can only be found via the command line which I'm not sure how to do.

40599 is a really bad build.

My advice upgrade to 46446.

After upgrading reset router to defaults (do not choose reset while upgrading).

Put setting in manually so make screenshots of your current settings.

Never restore from a backup to a different build.

The router database suggests that the last two supported versions for the EA6700 are 40599 and 44715 (from 11/2020). I assume 46446 hasn't been tested on this device and may introduce unknown issues. What is your opinion of 44715?

What is the risk if I don't reset after upgrade? Covid brought lot of router changes due to work from home and remote learning situations and I'm not sure I know all the tweaks that were made in order to obtain screen prints.

From the forum guidelines (link already in previous post).
-All builds are beta
-Do not use the router database
-Look in the build threads to see if the build is working for your router.

So have a look at:
https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=328970

And of course after reading the forum guidelines you know your router is of Broadcom Northstar type like a lot of popular routers (Netgear R6400, R6700v3, R7000(P), Archer C9, Asus AC68U and many more) and if it works for one of those it normally works for your router too Smile

Can you upgrade without resetting?
Yes you can and if you are coming from a not very old build you can safely do it without resetting, and only reset when you experience problems.

However you are coming from an old and "bad" build so I would reset after upgrading but you can try without and only reset when you experience problems.
