The first is that ntpclient refuses to operate. I’ve tried leaving the server field blank, tried us.pool.ntp.org, tried an internal ntp server (which I use for everything inside my lan), and even a cron job. None work. I can log in via ssh and issue “ntpclient us.pool.ntp.org” and get a timesync, but it never works automatically. Granted, I’ve only had this router for a week but this has never been an issue with any other router I’ve used with ddwrt (wrt3200acm among others).

Use this IP as NTP server and check - 129.6.15.28

I had read various posts about using ip addresses directly, but that didn’t work either. I tried 129.6.15.28 and the ip of my internal server.

Sigh....

and vanilla radio firmware is tried?

Vanilla causes random Connection loss on wlan1. Bridge becomes unusable for a Couple of minutes, Sometimes 5Ghz Radio Stopps working. Only with a reboot 5 GHz is usable again.
At the Moment, 5 GHz With dd-wrt Firmware is Most stable.

I also try different Old Builds Form 2019 and 2020. Same behaviour.
When i build the Bridge on 2,4GHz i don't have this Trouble but Performance on 5 GHz is much better

If your USB drive is NTFS formatted, then that's probably the cause.
Rebooting occurs -at least accourding to my experience with 4 different router models- when you are actually trying to access a file on an NTFS drive. Please note subsequent reboots might be caused by the device that initially tried to access the file retries to do so after the router's reboot.

What seems to work:
- Fat32 formatted drive
- SMB version 2.10 (or lower). With v3 or above, there seem to be issues when actually attempting to read files.

Pls read the issue.

It was and is working on older version v3.0-r45735 but NOT in the latest version.

I have usb drive formatted in NTSF. I Changed the SMB version on 2.10 and the problem is the same. Router restarts when the drive is plugged in usb in router.

Router Model Netgear R7800
Firmware Version DD-WRT v3.0-r46446 std (04/24/21)
Kernel Version Linux 4.9.267 #150 SMP Sat Apr 24 05:46:20 +07 2021 armv7l

update: cli
reset: yes
status: buggy/operational
errors: On my R7800 I just moved from DDWRT to Vanilla, still the same WiFi drops on various devices, very randomly, mainly on Windows 10 20H2 and on iPhones, but very random...
Wi-Fi on 1043v2 behaves rock solid...so, it must be a function that is present on R7800, but not on 1043v2 i need to investigate...both running almost similar WiFi config... will do R7800 reset to see if this helps...

P.S. After reset recompile R7800 2,4Ghz WiFi problem still exist...there are random drops, mainly Qualcomm/Intel/Broadcom coexistence impossible, but very random...in log it says connected/disconnected almost immediately on connection try..and device connects as it should on 3-4 attempt, sometimes it never connects...router restarts solves the issue for a while and comes back...tried various options.....

Been using the same setting for ages...NGmixed tried Mixed as well..Channel 11 + lower, Short GI, Short Preamble...not RTS/CTS protection, also tried hostapd

basic_rates=60 120 240
supported_rates=60 90 120 180 240 360 480 540

no avail at all

on 1043v2 it happens in a different way devices connects, but no traffic and it needs another few try's...until...

i've no idea if problem occurs just because updated Win 10 to 20H2 or iPhones to last 14.5.1....

Router/Version: tp-link 1043 v1 w/ ram mod
File/Kernel: Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r46446 std (04/24/21)
Previous/Reset: r46220, no reset
Mode/Status: gateway+AP, gigabit wan, uptime 2 days since last reboot
WAN-LAN throughput good, around 600+ mbps
I was using my 1043 v1 unit for a long time with r36104 build (as any newer build was leading to bootlop). I don't remember any WIFI problems with r36104. (but on r36104 there are was no encryption on wifi, just open AP)
On r46220 wifi hangs for sereral times a day.
On r46446 seems to be pretty stable. I did iperf for 2 hours each direction, PC-gigabit lan-1043v1-wifi-old laptop. Around 30mbps pc>laptop and around 50mbps laptop>pc.
Wifi settings are: AP, NG-mixed, WideHT40, Channel 6 + lower. I think i changed nothing in advanced settings. I've got 2 error messedge (telnet>dmesg), but wifi still works, no need to power cycle the unit.
Code:
<3>[65143.450000] ath: phy0: DMA failed to stop in 10 ms AR_CR=0x00000024 AR_DIAG_SW=0x42100020 DMADBG_7=0x000286c0
<3>[68041.980000] ath: phy0: DMA failed to stop in 10 ms AR_CR=0x00000024 AR_DIAG_SW=0x42100020 DMADBG_7=0x000084c0

I'll test wifi again later, it was hanging mostly when macbook pro (late 2013 model) was online. Maybe macbook was the case, i think i shoud test it with macbook doing some wifi traffic.

Not sure if this is the correct place to share this, but there were questions on what speeds you could get for A7 AC1750.

I just installed the latest firmware yesterday 5/7/21. I have 1G internet up/down and I confirm that I am able to get upwards to 900M+ up/down, although more consistently between 600M - 800M. Port forwarding working fine, DDNS to freedns.afraid.org working as well.

It's only been working 2 days, but hoping for stability in the long run. the original stock firmware (sorry, forgot the version number) was fine for a few weeks, then no internet until I rebooted. I believe this is a common TP-Link stock firmware issue. Hence, the move to DD-WRT.

Router/Version: Buffalo WHR-G300N V2
File/Kernel: Linux 3.10.108-d11 #79324 Sat Apr 24 06:56:14 +07 2021 mips
Previous/Reset: Yes
Mode/Status: OK
Issues/Errors: None

This device was updated from Buffalo's WHR-G300N Ver.1.80 (R2.01/B1.00) firmware using the "trailed" (encrypted) build. Router was factory reset from the Buffalo firmware, then the trailed build installed. On reboot the router was inaccessible until pressing the reset button on the bottom for around 5 seconds. That reset it and I was then able to login. Contains a 400Mhz Atheros CPU but is 2.6Ghz only.

Been running for half an hour so far and no issues as of yet...

Going to try out the Vanilla firmware type in the WiFi settings and hope that my previous issues mentioned here:
https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=325230
are no longer happening.

So far, speeds look decent. I still need to test for any possible performance degradation after a few days running without restarting it.

One issue I noticed after upgrading to this new firmware is that some of my devices could not connect to the 2.4 GHz network. All the mobile devices (iPhone and Android) and laptops could but my desktops could not. Not sure if it had to do with the kind of wireless chip in the clients. I also ended up doing a hard reset on the router.

I found out after I disabled "TurboQAM (QAM256) support" for the 2.4 GHz network, the issue went away.

I'm not sure why this is causing an issue now since I think I remember seeing this option enabled in my previous DD-WRT firmware builds and never had an issue with this enabled.

One thing that is different is I also temporarily turned this router into a wireless access point (ethernet backhaul) and connecting it to one of my other recently updated DD-WRT routers but not sure if that could play a role.

Posting an update regarding my previous posts. Looks like my issues have for the most part cleared up that I have experienced in here: https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=325230

What I did was I used the DD-WRT for the firmware type instead of Vanilla and it seems to be a lot more consistent in speed for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Still need to wait a few weeks (without the router resetting) to make sure it stays consistent but been a week so far and things are looking good.
