R9000, use the 10GbE SFP+ as WAN port?

Comcast in their infinite wisdom have upped the max download speed tier from 1Gbps to 1.2Gbps (but left the upload at a measly 35Mbit/s).

However, now that I at least have a faster downlink speed on my mostly CAT6 wired LAN, I'm trying to figure out how to utilize it with the Netgear X10/R9000 router.

The best options seem to either be:
a) Figure out how to use the SFP+ port as the WAN port and use link bonding to a fast external switch.
b) Figure out how to use 2x1GbE bonded connections to a cable modem, and then the 10GbE SFP+ to a fast external switch.

Anyone know if either option is a possibility?

Is your modem equipped with a 2.5gb ethernet port? I currently have a R9000 with sfp/eth0 set to wan port in Setup/Networking/Port Setup and getting WAN IP.

Not at present, looking at either the Netgear CM2000 with 2.5Gbps support or one that supports link aggregation with 2 x 1GbE ports like the CM1200.

That’s cool, so everything works as expected with this setup?

Haven't tried bonding ports yet. I'm holding out for the R10000 with 10Gb ports all around.

I'm not sure that's coming Smile

Anyway, does using the SFP+ as a 10GbE WAN port work in your setup? Which modem do you plug it into?

Currently it's connected to the RV340 Dual WAN Gb router which is the Cable/Satellite failover interface.

I switched the WAN port to the SFP just to show it can work and don't plan on leaving it there. In normal useage the SFP is connected as a LAN port on the 10Gb backbone here. The normal LAN ports on my 9000's are not used.

My modem has a 2.5Gb ethernet port but, my ISP only offers Gb service.
