Hi guys
I am having trouble with this because every source that I have tried is doing something different, that's why I can't figure out the right way of doing it.

I am trying to minimize buffering on my streaming so I thought maybe instead of having the vpn app running on my firestick, I could have it on a router. so I want to set up a dedicated router for streaming with all traffic going through vpn.

In one youtube video, the guy enabled dhcp. In another video, another guy didn't do anything with dhcp. In one video, the guy added opendns settings. in another video, another guy didn't mention anything about dns. in one guide, they talk about changing the dd-wrt clock to your current time. in another guide, they dont say anything about this. the guide that my vpn provider has on their website doesn't say anything about WAN, but in some videos I am seeing people doing something with WAN settings.

to make matters more confusing, some people change something settings in the primary router, some people don't do anything with the primary router.

It is always helpful if you state router model and build number

To get the best out of DDWRT and the forum read the forum guidelines with helpful pointers:

About your question it is easiest just to daisy chain the routers so connect the WAN from your VPN router to the LAN from your primary router.

Make sure that the Local ip address is different in the third octet so if the primary router has 192.168.1.1 set the VPN router to Local IP address of 192.168.2.1

This is the easiest setup but of course only clients connecting to your VPN router will use the VPN.

Furthermore because both routers are on a different subnet there is no seamless access e.g. for streaming media between subnets.
You can connect between subnets but only with IP address (and after you add some things to both routers)
