Hello,
Recently, I have upgraded the firmware on my TP-Link router from r33607 or whichever build was on/around 10/25/2017 to r44627.
Unfortunately, this build has been nothing but problems.
Specifically the WLAN and the Web GUI / stability is bad.
Besides the Wi-Fi dropping sometimes, the router will crash after a day and reboot. Also, sometimes when applying settings in the web GUI, it would time out and I would have to start over and reapply the settings again.
I never had an issue like this on my previous DD-WRT build and it was rock solid/ reliable. I made sure to reset to factory default setting s and cleared the nvram after upgrading. It seems that several people also experienced issues similar to my case and I wonder if anyone would know the last good build for this router. Hoping I won’t have to revert back to the same build I was on earlier as that is 3.5 years old now.

To my personal feelings known good and used builds are more daily usage drivers for older hardware. Do you use it as Gateway or router, whats about QoS or other options ? Describe the setup (& wiring if nessesary). There is no optimal build, I would try r42819 for a standard setup. You should clean the settings (factory reset) before and after downgrade to erase build related gremlins and manually rework your setup.
EDIT : If your crashs are memory related, you may try r39761, this should be more memory friendly/stable.

Thanks everyone. I guess I'll try a more recent build as kernel-panic suggested and then try older builds mentioned by servicetech as back up.

I'm using it as a regular router where it's connected to the modem and a few ethernet devices connected to the router. I also set up a VLAN wifi network as well. When the WLAN goes out, I can still access the router thru my ethernet devices and the internet still works on those devices. Other than that, I don't use QoS or do anything crazy on the router. _________________ DD-WRT Router Arsenal:

If the newer build does not satisfy, you may read the build threads in the range r42287, r42819, r42872, you should be able to choose one that matches...

I'm on 45955 now on everything. No issues. Only fallback I can think of is 44715. The only caveat right now is if you use Samba on the router. It's still a big WIP. _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

Just reporting on my status with the router...
Installed r45955 on the router and it seemed to operate fine but about 24 hours later, the WiFi messed up. The WiFi LED turned off and while I can still see the SSID when I look up available WiFi networks on my devices, I am unable to connect to them (tells me incorrect password). When I connect to the router via ethernet, I can see that the few devices that previously connected to the router (2-3) are no longer connected.
My WiFi settings are based on MSOEngineer's recommended QCA WiFi settings. I will say that the router at least so far seems stable in terms of the Web GUI but I haven't used it much at this point. The WLAN portion is still pretty bad unfortunately just like 44627. When I changed the SSID name for the WiFi (just to see what happens if I restart the WiFi but not the whole system/router), the WiFi was working again and the WiFi indicator light was flashing.
I could try to make the WiFi settings a bit simpler as I was running a VLAN WiFi (kind of like guest WiFi) as well so I can turn that off and see if I still have stability issues. I will try an older build and see how that goes if altering my WiFi settings do not make a difference. _________________ DD-WRT Router Arsenal:

Can you tell me the latest version where WPA2 and Samba are still working? I'm using older devices on my network so they MUST continue to work.

I'll answer your hijack with, "on what router?" If you are asking about the TL-WR1043ND v1.x, then the *last* pre-wsdd/ksmbd release as best I recall is 01-30-2020-r42174. Feel free to review the build thread. Also, understand that 42174 is pre-critical patches for overall firmware stability and vulnerability, so caveat emptor. _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

Just downgraded to r42819 and so far so good (running for 2 days). Will be doing some more stressful testing in a bit and see how that goes.
If all is good, that version will be my new baseline and then I may upgrade the firmware to a newer build and see if I can figure out which build is the last working one before succumbing to the WiFi instability issues.
Hopefully something newer than r42928 (https://svn.dd-wrt.com/changeset/42928) since I will probably forget that I need to perform specific steps to properly update the firmware in the future. _________________ DD-WRT Router Arsenal:

Just reporting back. Router is definitely a lot more stable than the previous build I was on but it does still crash from time to time (maybe once every 1-2 weeks or something). Not as stable as when I was on the r33607 build but acceptable enough for me to continue using it.
I noticed the router crashed not long after I visited the DD-WRT web GUI page for the router. _________________ DD-WRT Router Arsenal:

Personally, I would avoid that router (TP-Link 1043ND v1.X) like the plague. I found it had bad hardware, didn't matter what firmware it was running. My other Atheros based routers were stable, 841ND, etc. That one would reboot at least every 8 hours or less, losing connection to the main WDS AP. I had never seen an up time of 24 hours or more on it ever. I have since thrown it out actually. Archer C7 v2 is way more stable, or 1043ND v2. Still nothing is as stable as a good old DIR-615 C1, E3/E4, I1. (I1 is currently waiting for Brainslayer to fix bootlooping issue: https://svn.dd-wrt.com/ticket/7413) _________________ Before asking a question on the forums, update dd-wrt: Where do I download firmware? I suggest reading it all.
