Hi All,

I currently have an R7800 set up with a guest VAP which I set up as per the instructions here and it seems to work okay and the guest wifi cannot see the private network.

However, I came into the possession of a WRT1900ACSv2 which I've put DD-WRT onto, as I would like to use it as an wireless access point "repeater" so that I can extend the range of my wifi into the garden. I've attached my current network set up and everything in the blue rectangle is what I am trying to set up (the two routers are connected via Ethernet, not wifi).

I've found a couple of guides that I've gone through and disabled DHCP on the WRT1900, however, I am not sure how to set up the guest network VAP on the WRT1900 so that it gets an IP assignment from the R7800 rather than the WRT1900.

Do I need to go back to basics again and set up bridges/VLANs etc. and how would I go about doing that?

Sorry for the basic question, I did try to search but became overwhelmed with different instructions of varying age - I am really looking for the "latest" way to do it, given that both routers are on >46000 releases.

Thank you.

hmm first for a security reasons i would ve save the current setup and update to a newer build R7800...
you may need to reset after update and manually rebuild the set up...

than to use a WRT1900 as a AP, just use it as a WAP

Yes, the guest network communication needs to happen on a separate VLAN.

I was helped by
https://netosec.com/dd-wrt-wifi-vlans/
to succeed with it
