Hello,

Can anyone advise best settings to get my devices to jump back onto 5Ghz after they are on 2.4Ghz?
I would like them back on 5Ghz as fast as possible, becasue i get 70mbps Dl on 2.4Ghz and 350mbps on 5Ghz.

My scenario is as so:
Testing 4x phones. S10+, S10, Mate 20x 5G, S21 Ultra.
Behaviour is largely the same.

I am located 2m from the router. I reset the Wifi on the devices. They all connect directly to 5Ghz.

I move from the router into the garden, the 5Ghz gets to around -80 to -90 and the devices switch automatically to 2.4Ghz at around -70 -75.
This part seems to be great. As the 5Ghz gets unusable, they swtich to 2.4Ghz (which is usable)

My issue starts when i come back into the property. I sit the devices within 1-2m of the router, and they just remain on 2.4Ghz band. They dont switch back to 5Ghz.
I have left them there for around 1 hour. The devices do slowly return to 5Ghz, but after 5m, 15m, 30m, 45m.
Initially, i thought that this was related to the handset.
I put the router back to default factory software, and the issue is resolved. Devices switch back to 5Ghz band as soon as i get to within 5m of the router.

Latest Stable Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r44048 (08/02/20)
I do not have any nearby neighbours on 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz band. I can see some AP's around 500m away at -90 if im in the garden.

Below are my settings for both bands.

Thanks in advance.

Most clients will not switch before their current connection is broken.

Is it possible to enable 802.11r on the wireless security tab?

I checked the documentation for 801.11r, and it did state that it would break the WiFi.
However, I tried it.

It broke the WiFi, all wireless clients could no longer see the router.
