I have a EA6400 running DD-WRT v3.0-r45229 std (01/01/21). I want to use this router behind my ISP's router ONLY for using the OpenVPN client with ProtonVPN.
1. What are the best settings for using the EA6400 as a OpenVPN client only behind my ISP's router regarding DHCP, WAN (currently disabled on the EA6400), Gateway settings etc.?
2. After configuring the OpenVPN client settings, there is no established connection on the status page. Where can I start troubleshooting this? Are there any logfiles I can check via SSH to see what the problem might be?

Any help is greatly appreciated!
I would keep that build if it is running and you have internet access.
Unfortunately a lot of VPN providers have obsolete and faulty instructions.
I took a quick look and the thing which is really wrong is the DNS server settings.
Do not use that, in static DNS use 9.9.9.9 or 1.1.1.1 or any other public DNS servers of your liking.
There is a lot more to say about it but there is a chance it will work when altering DNS.
If it does not work show a screenshot of the OVPN status page no more than 800 pixels width.
I will transfer this thread to the appropriate forum
Finally got this working a few days ago by fixing every error in the syslog one by one and by adding the tags from the ovpn file into the cert and tls fields. It's working great now. Hope this helps others!
