Success!

Your question "are you connecting with DHCP or a static IP?" was what steered me toward the problem. The laptop I use is corporate and I forgot that I occasionally use the wired connection for device connections that require manual config. That's why I could connect with the wireless (always use the normal way) and not the wired (hardly ever use but when I do it's manually config'd). I simply changed from manually set DNS to DHCP and now I'm in business.
