Router: Dlink DIR-882 A1
File: dlink-dir882-a1-webflash.bin
Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r45677 std (02/04/21)
Reset: Yes

The configuration done manually after a complete reset. Acting as the main home wifi router.

After a kernel warning the eth0 interface stops working. No WAN or lan. Only wifi is available to access the router.
This happens randomly. Sometimes the router would running for days, but the last one happened after only 31 minutes up.

Attached the complete /var/log/messages. Let me know if there's any further information I can collect or any other test I can do.

Thanks and Regards,

Looking at your log, it looks like you are using autochannel on wifi, which is NOT recommended. Also, are you using the connection watchdog for keepalive? I would try making some adjustments like picking a channel and mode for wireless and turning off the watchdog.

For watchdog, do you mean the configuration in "Administration" -> "Keep Alive"? That option is off by default and I didn't activate it.

As per the autochannel, I usually configure it to 6 for 100 and mode NG-Mixed. Maybe I forgot to do it this time. This is the current status of the router:

    * Installed stock firmware
    * Installed dd-wrt r45677
    * Manually did all the configuration.
    * For 2.4Ghz I configured to channel 6 and mode NG-mixed.
    * For 5Ghz I disabled it to take it out of the picture.

I'll leave it running and update with any news.

Thanks!

Hi!

My router has been running with no issues for 5 days Very Happy

Despite that, once or twice a day all wifi devices loose connection with the raspberry pi that I configured to monitor the network. This lasts for 5 minutes. After that time all devices come back to life with no issues.

I'll keep watching it, but I'm already very happy with this version and current configuration Smile

Actually I don't know if this is more or less stable than factory firmware because before I was not watching the network so closely Wink

Thanks and regards!

Hi joatumas,

Thanks for sharing your experience, it sounds promising ! Could you tell what services are you using ? (PPPOE ? SMB ? NAS ? VPN ?)

Do you think it's necessary to install stock firmware before upgrading ? I saw somewhere that latest stock firmware from D-Link (v1.2 ?) may make DD-WRT installation on DIR-882 A1 impossible, is it true ?

Thanks again

Router Model / Version: Dlink DIR-882 A1
File: dlink-dir882-a1-webflash.bin
Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r45677 std (02/04/21)
Previous: DD-WRT v44715
Reset: YES
Mode: AP
Uptime: ~ 1 Days
Status: working
Services: Openvpn client, DLNA, SAMBA, PPPOE
Issues / Errors: When selecting AC/N-Mixed for wlan 1 (5Ghz) and VHT-80, invalid extension channels are not automatically hidden. When i selected VHT-80 with channel 149, i didn't see that LL(-6) extension was selected and that caused wlan 1 to disppear (fortunately, 2,4 Ghz channel had different SSID and i could connect to router and configure it properly). After i selected UU(+6), everything was working fine.

Really happy with this version so far and to find a stable version more recent than v44715. I don't need to use insmod xhci-mtk.ko anymore to mount my hard drives. NAS, OPENVPN Client, PPPOE, everything seems to work very well.

EDIT: it seems that the error of "invalid extension channel" described earlier happened only during initial wifi configuration. Now when selecting a channel, the correct extention is also automatically selected. So, this is no more an issue once the router's wifi is properly configured.

I didnt finish tweaking wireless settings but transmission throughput between my 2015 Mac and router is better (around 500 mbps max - was around 450 mbs). However i had a big drop in Reception (download) throughput, that went from around 300 mbps to 170 mbps max. That is actually my biggest issue.

EDIT 2: No matter what wifi settings i try, download throughput is definitely halved with this version.

Big thanks to the devs ! Very Happy

Hi everyone,

After further testing, it appears that when i select Wide HT40 as channel width in wlan0 (2,4 Ghz), the wireless interface wlan0 simply disapear. It didn't the first time i tried, but as soon as i played with RTS threshold and protection mode, wlan0 disapear and only come back when i select "Full (20Mhz)" as channel width.

Also, i think that "restore settings" function is not working properly (settings set after a reset and freshly installed frim with backup function in "administration").

I think i'll try a more recent firm and see what happens.

EDIT: i finally figured out the "Wide HT40" channel causing wifi 2,4 Ghz disappearing problem. I was using it with channel 11 and "upper" channel extension was automatically selected which caused wifi 2,4 Ghz to disappear. When i select "Lower" channel extension, there is no more issues. 2,4 Ghz seems quite unstable though

You should never restore settings from a different build number.

Either do not reset at all or after upgrade reset to defaults and put settings in manually.

Thanks for your reply egc.

Restore was not from a previous build. It was from this build after "basic" settings. I did this so i could play with settings without starting from the beginning if something went wrong. It seems for me that restore function simply didn't work on this buils

Hardware reset or nvram erase && reboot from Telnet as root. Create a new backup after manual reconfig.

If you need to downgrade to a previous build and restore a matching previous backup, reset before restore.
