It appears sd2812 ticket was "assigned" does this make it any more likely this router will see DD-WRT support?

Hope dd-wrt started work and love to see dd-wrt support for this model.
R8000P has encrypted CFE and it is difficult to make port for this model. Only a Merlin ported firmware support for this router, topic discussed on right.com.cn. But the firmware is cfe rom and in squbi.w format (Asus-wrt use this) instead of .bin or .trx and flashing guide not disclosed. May be this Merlin ported for business only and available for China only.

I haven't seen any development in the public repo, and I have not followed up with the developer. If it's going to happen, a new router needs to be donated for the cause, if it hasn't happened already since the one in hand got damaged. At present, it seems RMerlin is the only one to have a custom firmware ported.

I think Merlin ported not ported by RMerlin.

Their use of "MerlinR" seems a bit suspect. There is only one Merlin I know of in the firmware communities, and he mainly supports Asus, so I guess I was confused by your words. It happens. Still, the need remains for a new hardware donation to move this forward as far as I know.

Linux 5.12-rc1 contains most of code required for the BCM4908 support, see:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/log/?h=v5.12-rc1&qt=grep&q=BCM4908

WIP:

  1. MTD partitioning
  2. Ethernet improvements

Planned:

  1. PCIe controller support (required for WiFi)

Not even planned:

  1. Runner support (hardware network accelerator). No support may also mean no full support for devices with extra switch (e.g. 8 LAN ports).

This ticket was submitted on 23 Dec 2020, and I have seen NO development commits regarding this device yet, no firmware images for download anywhere. Broadcom is *not* a priority. If it happens, it happens. Please do NOT open new threads about this device or bump this topic.

https://svn.dd-wrt.com/ticket/7293

Note 07.03.2021: As of this date, no firmware yet and someone already tried (again?) to flash the R8000 image to it: https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=329562

Firmware will come whenever BrainSlayer finds the mood...
