Hello to all, my first post on here.

Thanks to the people that have contributed to this thread (especially @mrjcd), I have been able to get a guest network on my WNDR3700v3 router. It has been quite a long journey, involving reading many threads and many a restore/reboot/reset to default. It's a flakey router, to say the least! (I have r40599 installed on it btw)

My only problem has been with the 2 firewall rules; if I run them via cli (telnet) then they work fine, if I enter/save them as rules on the GUI then the network locks up - no connected device has access to the internet.

I'd guess there's a problem with the GUI that maybe a flash to a later build might resolve... but I wanted to check the opinion of others first. As I said, the WNDR3700 appears fragile and I don't want to risk bricking with a failed upgrade. Thanks all Smile

Please don't "hijack" an old thread to start your own help session... rule #6 rather, start a new topic specific to your issues.

I've split your comment from the How To guide for VAP's...

You need to update your router to 44715.

I would recommend writing down your settings.
The best practice would be to reset the router before making an update and again afterwards to clear out any nvram settings that might turn into issues otherwise.

This is especially true when you go from a build more than 3 months old, but can even happen from one build to the next depending on what the developer has changed in the code.

Once you're running 44715, go ahead and look at my signature for the best wifi settings to use and don't deviate from them. This will assure you have all your wifi setting set up the right way.

From that point you can test your firewall settings in the gui and they should work. 40559 is a well known bad build with underlying issues...

Thank you for confirming that the issue could be due to the GUI. I didn't know if that was even possible, it was just a guess on my part, not being an expert. I didn't even know that my router was on a "bad build"! I shall take a deep breath and update it and report back.

(BTW, mine is the version 3, a Broadcom router. Perhaps this thread would be better placed in that forum??)

There doesn't appear to be a 44715 build for the v3. The latest I can find is 42954.

Rather than risk it, I'm inclined to stay on my current build and manually run those firewall rules on reboot.

I've flashed to 44715 and redone all my settings. It's up and running (and backed up) It all went rather well, despite my nervousness.

Sadly the guest network doesn't work at all now, so it's back to the other thread to double check the config and ask for pointers.

Going to edit/marked this as 'solved' now as I've flashed the newer release.

For completeness, what I did;

since I'd already got a version of DD-WRT on my router, I could simply flash

dd-wrt.v24-44715_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-nv64k.bin
