Hello there,

I have a dir 880L version A1 firmware 1.20

I am trying to install ddwrt on my dir-880L so I can configure a LAN DSN to use with pi-hole installed on my raspberry pi. So far, I have tried to install this version: https://dd-wrt.com/support/other-downloads/?path=betas%2F2021%2F01-09-2021-r45385%2Fdlink-dir880l%2F

When I try to flash the firmware to ddwrt, it tells me the upgrade has failed. Is it because I am using a firmware that doesn't work with my router?

What is the latest stable firmware that I can use. I want to be able to use both 2ghz and 5ghz and monitor my internet usage. I want the signal strength to be as good as with the original firmware because my router is in the office and my living room tv uses wifi for netflix etc. Currrently, the 5ghz signal is -47db.

Thank you very much.

Don't have your router, but either r44715 or very newest. Do not use Chrome or anything Chromium based.

Install factory-to-ddwrt.bin from factory stock GUI. After DD-WRT installs, upgrade with dir880-webflash.bin.

Pale Moon, Waterfox (Classic 56 or 3rd Gen 78), Firefox ESR 78 or Release 84 (Release version is YMMV)

If you are using Firefox 84, try ESR 78 or one of the forks. Which build number are you attempting to flash?

Which region is DIR-880L? This may be a case of firmware lockout, so the need to downgrade is possible.

I'm in Canada. I downloaded firefox from the link you pasted. Even the krack patch firmware tells me it fails to upgrade.

Sorry, but many versions of Firefox can be downloaded from that link, assuming Firefox Browser Release 84 which I said is YMMV.

It's up to you which direction to take from now on. Here is Canada 1.08WW, but I believe we need an older WW version (not US).

The earliest firmware I can find so far from the Canada site is 1.08.

I chose the macOS ESR version. What do you mean it's up to me? Like if I wasn't listening to you.

thank you but I am not sure to understand. I need to enter in recovery mode, then flash an older firmware that will allow me to flash the firmware-to-ddwrt. Once this is flashed, I flash the build you recommended me.

Yes, but currently I do not know where to find older Canada or Worldwide region firmwares for DIR-880L.

Build r44715 is the last build I can find with user feedback reported in the build threads for DIR-880L.

Thank you. I will try to fix it this weekend. If I can't, what router do you recommend for a flat for one person that works well with ddwrt ?

I guessed FTP URLs with info from duckduckgo, D-Link forum post and Canadian support site download links. Laughing

Don't know, haven't verified anything. I don't have your router. Please stop quoting me every single time. Laughing

User konker had success with 1.02, but I do know which region or beta. He also progressively downgraded.

So, I can only make assumptions such as use 1.02 or earlier. YMMV at your own risk.
