I just moved my ISP from Comcast to Sonic FTTN. I simply moved the WAN cable from my old cable router to the new ONT, rebooted and everything seemed to work fine.

However, my connection interrupts frequently and I have to reboot my router several times a week (vs pretty much never, before) to restore my internet access.

I've seen something about DHCP renewal responses causing issues, but there didn't seem to be a consensus solution. Does anyone have setting suggestions?

Thanks; I'll repost with more info. My hope with this light post was that someone who uses this ISP (very popular in the SF Bay Area right now) will have experienced this and know the setting.

Which is the best forum? I don't feel like this is a hardware-specific issue.

If it is not hardware specific you should post in the Advanced Networking Forum (see the forum guidelines, also what information to post)

I will transfer this for you

Now that I'm in the right forum...
I don't know that it's relevant, but my hardware is a Netgear R7000 running r33675m (old, and should be upgraded, but I'd rather not change that right now since the router was working perfectly before I switched the ISP upstream).

Fairly frequently a client will notice the internet connection is frozen for a brief period. Sometimes (about 1/day) this is only resolved by rebooting the router.

I've found some discussion that this might be the router not responding properly to frequent DHCP renewals by the ISP

Discussion here, but it's 9 years old and pre-dates the ftth connection I'm using.
http://70.36.170.29/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=243
The summary of the recommendation is adjusting SPI firewall rules and/or disabling it completely along with disabling the DMZ.

There were also some arguments several years ago about whether this was a dd-wrt bug
https://svn.dd-wrt.com//ticket/973

I've tried these recommendations, but it doesn't seem to have fixed it.

Perhaps asking the obvious but did you reset the FTTH modem after you connected the router?

Furthermore problems with frequent renewals of DHCP are solved in later builds, so I would upgrade your build.

Make screenshots of your settings, reset router after upgrading with the following command from the command line (telnet/Putty):
Code:
nvram erase && reboot

Put your settings in manually never restore from a backup.

Use at least build 44715, I am using 45420 at this moment without a problem for my R6400, but check the build threads as outlined in the forum guidelines.
