Trying to setup RT-N13U router as WLAN repeater

I have DD-WRT installed and updated to the latest on my RT-N13U. I am trying to repeat off my Iphone 8's hotspot. It is not working. I'm not sure if the problem is the security settings? Has anyone done this before? I'm doing this because I plan to use the RT-N13U in the future to repeat off of a hotspot device that has no wired connections. Repeating with the RT-N13U will provide wired connections for hardware I need internet access for. I figure if I can do it successfully with repeating off my Iphone, then I can do it when my hotspot arrives. Right now I'm just wiring into the RT-N13U with an ethernet cable and laptop and I have no internet. Can someone help me with this?
