I am new to DDWRT X86. I have been using DDWRT for years in routers but just recently decided to try it in an extra computer I had lying around. I had no issues installing the X86_64 version. I purchased a license and activated it with no issues. I do have a few questions that I have searched for but have not found an answer.

1) My computer has 8 GB of ram but DDWRT only reports 4 GB. Is that normal?
2) I paid for a license so I should have access to wireless even though I do not currently have a WIFI card installed. There is no wireless tab in the GUI. Did I download the wrong version of DDWRT or will the tab appear once I do install a wifi card (plug and play????)
3) The computer I am using has a 4 core I7 processor in it. The software reports 8 cores I assume due to hyperthreading. Does DDWRT actually take advantages of all the available cores? This question is out of pure curiosity.

For 1 and 2, which one did you download?

1 seems like it is 32bit but I do not know.

For 3, yes it will take advantage of all of the different cores.

I definitely used a 64 bit image or at least I got it out of the 64 bit folder where the downloads are stored. I have now tried two different versions 44970 & 45000. For both version I tried both dd-wrt_x64-webupgrade_full_serial.bin and
dd-wrt_x64-webupgrade_full_serial_2GB.bin. I do not know what the difference between the two is. Both report 4 GB of ram with no wireless tab in both 44970 & 45000.

I will try something from last year when I get a chance and see what it does. One thing to point out is my ram is two 4 GB sticks rather than one 8 GB stick if that makes a difference.

Well I fixed the RAM problem. I hooked the computer up to a monitor so I could check the bios. The bios was also reporting 4GB. These were definitely each two 4GB chips but the computer recognized them as each having 2GB apiece. I had another pair of DDR3 4GB chips that I installed and the bios recognized them as 8GB with the pair. The software also recognizes them as 8GB. I do not know why the others were only showing half. That is something I have never seen before. Each RAM chip is clearly labeled as 4GB and I have used them before and they registered as 8GB so I guess they are faulty now.

I have not figured out why I do not have the Wireless tab showing. I am using the "full" images for the paid license. I tried to "upgrade" to an older version from 2019 however it "bricked" my hard drive so to speak so I had to redo the image. This time I used one from August 2020. I did not have the wireless tab in this one either. I am not sure what the differences are but the file sizes of the images in 2019 are much smaller than they are with the newest versions from December this year. I am not really worried about the wireless tab being there as I have two R7000's that I am using as wireless access points on opposite ends of my house connected via wired connection. To be honest I have run Cat 6 wires all over my house to my entertainment areas and bedrooms so wireless is only used to connect laptops, tablets, and cell phones. I doubt I ever need to X86 version for wireless but I thought I would play with it some. I do not currently have a wireless card to fit the computer I loaded with DDWRT. I may pick one up one day just to see if the wireless tab will show up if I install one. in a plug and play fashion.

No I do not have any wifi to configure but the tab is not there at all. Perhaps it only appears when a wireless card is added? That was my question. When I say there is no Wireless tab I am referring to the tab shown below in the picture from one of my access points.

I don't know it exactly because I have never tried it without a WLAN card

but the tabs are only displayed if the hardware for it is available

on the x86 no switch tab is shown because x86 normally do not have a switch

My apologies for breaking the image size rule. I was unaware of it. I have deleted the pictures I posted.

There was only one that was too big, now this thread is messed up without them. It's not that difficult to fix image sizes.

Okay I have edited some of the post above adding newly resized pictures. I have also slightly edited some of the post with some new wording.

I also just realized that the RAM I originally installed apparently is a 4 GB set. It says 4 GB on each stick but has 2 X 2 GB right next to it. I could have sworn I had used that set before and it registered as 8 GB. Perhaps I just assumed it and never really checked after it was installed? I could reinstall these in the other two slots and have 12 GB of ram but I am not sure if there is any value in doing that.
