I have dd wrt (v3.0-r40559 std (08/06/19)installed on a WRT1900ac Linksys router. From time to time the 2.4GHz channel appears to be off. Anyway the light is off and it seems some site load really slow. If I turn if off and back on the light for that frequency lights up. Then websites appear to load in a timely manner. Any ideas on what I can do?

Verify the version of your router by looking at the bottom sticker or label in the upper right "Model No."...

There are four WRT1900 variants: AC, AC V2, ACS, ACS V2.

Follow blkt's advice and load in r44048 build.

Other than r31924 it is the only stable build I have found for the 1900V1 although other builds may work fine they did not for me with my configuration.

Download ddwrt-linksys-wrt1900ac-webflash.bin and use web GUI Administration -> Firmware Upgrade (do not reset).

https://dd-wrt.com/support/other-downloads/?path=betas%2F2020%2F08-02-2020-r44048%2Flinksys-wrt1900ac%2F

https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2020/08-02-2020-r44048/linksys-wrt1900ac/

ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2020/08-02-2020-r44048/linksys-wrt1900ac/

It is recommended to flash over an Ethernet cable connected to a LAN port, not over WiFi (disable client adapter).

Some have problems with Chrome or Chromium-based browsers, so highly suggest using Firefox, fork or derivative.

Pale Moon, Waterfox (Current 78 or Classic 56), Firefox ESR 78 or Firefox Portable Legacy (ESR 52 or 45, use offline).

In general please avoid or disable add-ons, extensions or plugins and clear all history in advance.

The information below is optional, to reconfigure from scratch.

Verify successful flash and automatic reboot into the new target build of DD-WRT, then hardware reset.

If you want to avoid the physical reset button, alternatively use Web GUI -> Administration -> Factory Defaults to clear nvram, or a third option is to issue command "nvram erase && reboot" via Telnet.

Thanks much for that information. I will install as you mentioned and see how it works.

Don't like Google, so I use Firefox and Waterfox.

Install went without incident.

Could you recommend any particular settings for 2.4 and 5 that work better than others?

It comes down to your client devices, how they behave with WRT1900AC V1, and nearby channel usage.

Set your channels (do not use Auto) and start simple before branching out to more aggressive settings.

Channel Width, Save, Extension Channel, Save, Wireless Channel, Save. Reboot. Some examples are below.

2.4 GHz: AP, Mixed, Full (20 MHz), Channel 1, 6 or 11 @ TX power 30 dBm

5 GHz: AP, Mixed, Full (20 MHz), Channels 36 to 48 @ TX Power 23 dBm or 149 to 161 @ TX Power 30 dBm

I use separate SSIDs and enable Short Preamble. If ath2 is visible, set ath2 Wireless Network Mode Disabled.

Keep wireless security mode defaults as WPA: with only WPA2 Personal and CCMP-128 (AES) checked.

Over time you can try new things, preferably one or two instead of all at once so you can isolate problems.

Try defaults before restricting Wireless Network Modes, widening Channel Width, larger Beacon & DTIM, ACK.

Check out WiFi Analyzer open-source by VREM, also WifiInfoView by NirSoft.

With two different SSID's will the devices know which one to connect with?

Looking for information to educate myself on routers and DD-WRT.
