I have an old e900 which was running perfectly okay with dd-wrt version 42557 - configured as a repeater
When I saw no broadcast from this repeater today - I opened this in the GUI (via WiFi) and did a reboot using the reboot button on the Services>>Services page.
The router restarted - but still no WiFi.
Then I removed the power plug and put it back on.
Since then - the router is not booting up.
All the LEDs are lighting up - but with a very low light intensity. 30-30-30 reset is not workig (no change in LEDs when reset is kept pressed) Unable to ping the router even if I connect via ethernet cable.
Is this bricked?
At the time of removing the power plug, I noticed that the correct LEDs were glowing with normal brightness.
Though this is an old piece of hardware which has given it's due share of service over the years - I would like to attempt a recovery if this is possible. Can anyone help me - or guide me to where I can get some study material.
To eliminate that the power adapter is okay, I connected another adapter of the same specs. Same results - therefore I think the power adapter is okay and issue is with the router. _________________ PROFESSIONAL STUDENT my.Mistakes ∝ my.Learning ... provided I have the patience & persistence to learn
It was dd-wrt.v24-42557_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega-nv64k.bin
This was running since last one week. _________________ PROFESSIONAL STUDENT my.Mistakes ∝ my.Learning ... provided I have the patience & persistence to learn
Should I try a serial recovery? (I mean is it still recoverable?)
Is this the correct adapter to be used for the E900?
The ad says:
The main chip CP2102, generates virtual serial port after installing the driver, Taking power, USB and elicit interface includes 3.3 V (< 40 ma), 5 V, GND, TX and RX, signal feet is 3.3 V, is logical

I have one of those serial adapters, works good for me. If the router is completely not responsive, etc. then serial may be the way to go, if no management console web page comes up or you can't do the pin short method. I couldn't find any reports specific to that build and this router, so not sure what's up. Have you tried resetting to defaults to see if it's a config issue? _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

@Kernel-Panic69:
All LEDs glow dimly as soon as the device is switched on - and there is no response after that.
Reset does not respond.
30-30-30 does not respond.
No Ping (else at least I could try tftp)
In fact, when connected to my laptop via ethernet, the laptop does not even recognize that something is connected.
(Edit/Added image of what happens the moment I switch thr router on. Absolutely nothing seems to respond after that)
@Blkt:
I am in India - and my choices are pretty much limited to these...
DTECH Electronics and DSD TECH are China so if you search model numbers and/or description you should be able to find them on other sites, distributors for your region.
What sites do you normally use? Maybe I can search around. The FTDI chip itself is FT232RL.

You may want to test the external power supply with a multimeter.
Another possibility is failing components inside the router such as capacitors.
I had already ordered the above adapter (the picture I posted) because that gets delivered by Monday and costs 1/5th. If that doesn't work, I'll look at the one you suggested.
Capacitor may be an issue because I noticed a tiny spark twice - while inserting the jack into the router's power socket. A capacitor holding charge is one of the probable reasons for such sparks. Have to check this angle too. _________________ PROFESSIONAL STUDENT my.Mistakes ∝ my.Learning ... provided I have the patience & persistence to learn
CP2102 is fine. Does it come with a pin adapter cable or do you have one already? 0.100" (2.54mm)
It comes with some cables (both side female), which is incompatible with the E900. But I have other cables that I can use to connect. (I hope these are the right ones as in the image)
A wee bit excited since I will be trying out the serial route for the first time. Now I guess I need to wait a couple of days till I get the adapter !!

Thanks to all who tried to help me here. Felt I owed it to convey how it ended.
I tried multiple times, with both type of cables - but there was no result.There is some hardware failure, I suppose.
I pondered why a router would go bad without any user-interference and realized this could be (could be) because I had powered this from a 16A line where my fridge was also connected. Whenever the compressor starts, it pulls more current. Could be this caused some unwanted spikes and damaged the router.
I haven't thrown the router yet - because someday, I might bump across someone who can help me understand the hardware and attempt repairs, and I may discover that I the time and inclination to do it. _________________ PROFESSIONAL STUDENT my.Mistakes ∝ my.Learning ... provided I have the patience & persistence to learn
