Hi
I am DD WRT Novice, I like the firmware and its capabilities.
I have issues with whatsapp voice/video calls not working intermittently.
The issue is the phone rings and when I answer the call; it will stay on connecting.

Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r44048 std (08/02/20)
Model : Linksys WRT 1900AC

I have looked up on the internet and port forwarded the following ports
TCP: 4244,5222,5223,5228,5242
TCP/UDP: 59234, 50318
UDP: 3478,45395

I have tried different UDP timeout settings, enabled uPnP, various wifi configurations works for a while and same issue.

Any assistance is much appreciated, Thank you for your support and assistance.

although im not using whatsapp (for some other reasons) I know of, other ppl are using it, on my Netgear R7800 router... i haven't done anything like port forwarding or so...and it should be working even without that...
In your case it sound either like client based issue or you router is connected to a device/modem that cuts off that communication... investigate in this direction...

Are you using iphone based device, on this marvel based router...?

try this line if that happens over wi-fi
add to wi-fi security password page> hostapd box,
save & apply....

ap_max_inactivity=600

or try even value of 900

also this question belongs to Marvel based devices forum... Wink

also in your router wi-fi settings make sure you use the correct settings...
use NG mixed and select a channel do not use auto..
and AC/N mixed for 5Ghz too and select a channel

Hi Alozaros
Thank you very much for your assistance.
I have already contacted the service provider for any blockages on the network/ports. They are sending a new modem.
Also as a note, in the interim I reverted from dd-wrt to the Linksys firmware no issues so far (about 7 hours) once I receive the new modem I will install dd-wrt and try again with your inputs and feedback.
BTW I am using android and even with iphone it is the same.

Thank you very much for your assistance Very Happy

Estimados tom2tom:
With my WRT1900AC V2 Firmware: 44048 the same thing happens to me. If someone calls me, the call stays connecting. I noticed that if I disconnect my Samsung phone from the Wi-Fi network and reconnect it. The call can be established.

I also have a Netgear X10 from last Saturday. So far I had no problems with the R9000. I have other settings in the Wirelles tab on this device. All else is the same as the Linksys

Saludos

PS: Excuse my English. Google Translate helped me

Hi Alozarus,Pupeto

Thank you for the suggestions.

Feedback
Confirmed it is not modem/service provider, also changed the modem => tested with linksys firmware - no issues (tried for 2 days)

reverted back to
DD-WRT v3.0-r44048 std (08/02/20)
Model : Linksys WRT 1900AC

2.4Ghz wireless - NG mixed and manual channel selected
5Ghz wireless - AC/N mixed and manual channel selected

ap_max_inactivity=600 => still NG(same issues, randomly not connecting)
ap_max_inactivity=900 => still NG(same issues, randomly not connecting)

any other suggestions or thoughts

any suggestion/assistance is much appreciated.

Thank you.

Why are you disabling WMM?

Is it because you have IoT (home automation, doorbell, thermostat, smart switches, esp8266 etc.)?

Try isolating these problematic devices in a 2.4 GHz VAP, and only disable WMM within that VAP.

Then deny by MAC address the same devices on the main 2.4 Ghz AP which has WMM enabled.

Keep WMM enabled on 5 GHz. https://github.com/kaloz/mwlwifi/issues/278#issuecomment-588875226

The reason why I had to disable WMM is to get whatsapp connecting issue with wifi. It happens intermittently only. Only time it works without issue is with WMM disabled. I tried with Linksys firmware, no issues. Only with DD WRT I have issue. Also I don't have Lot devices...

Any thing else I can try?

Do you have any 2.4 GHz connected devices that are in an authentication loop (auth/deauth)?

Take a look at router logs (enable Syslogd in Services) and if so the possible solution is my previous post.

I checked the router logs and I do not have any 2.4 GHz connected devices that are in an authentication loop (auth/deauth)?

Also so far my 2 phones connected with 2.4GHz (WMM Disabled) and no issues with whatsapp connectivity (over 3 days).

An update

Based on my trials, the issue of whatsapp calls/ wifi not connecting intermittently has been resolved with the following settings.

Based on what I read from different dd-wrt forum discussions, I changed the beacon interval and the DTIM Interval for both my 2.4GHz & 5GHz wireless. The forum also suggested that the odd number is better suited for the beacon interval

https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1219835#1219835|

The settings are as per the attachments.

Thank you for all your contributions.

I am sorry I am unsure, how can I post it as solved.

Channel Width - Full (20 MHz) or Full Wide HT40 (40 MHz), but not Dynamic (20/40 MHz)

Allow Channel Overlapping - Disable

TurboQAM (QAM256) support - Disable

Short Preamble - Enable

Beacon and DTIM - Everyone has their own formula, use what works best (mmm Bacon).

Sensitivity Range (ACK Timing) - consider 450 or 900
