Hi,

Sorry for this question , but I am a newbie regarding flahing.

I have just purchased a second hand Linksys WRT 1900 ACS V2 which is equiped with OpenWRT.
I would like to migrate to DD-WRT

I have read the Install Guide https://forum.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linksys_WRT1900AC and a lot of things about installation on the DD-WRT forum and wiki. But all that was dedicated to fresh installation from the Linksys firmare.

Does the the Install Guide will suit with my situation ( reset???) or have I to adapt a bit ?

Thank you for your help

Go back to factory stock Linksys firmware first. Always.

Blkt, Thank you for your quick reply.

Considering the routeur has already been flashed to OpenWRT, I wonder that a factory reset will only erase the configuration parameters od OpenWRT.
What do I have to to togo back to the Linksys firmware ?

Don’t erase OpenWRT, with DDWRT chances are you get unstable WiFi on iOS devices. This router has two partitions, meaning you can install two OS on It. You may have the Linksys stock firm on the other partition.

My recommendation is that you investigate a little longer and try to get DDWRT on the other partition so you can try both.

For OpenWRT you can try updated WiFi drivers that are not ideal but a little better than stock drivers here https://forum.openwrt.org/t/pre-compiled-updated-mwlwifi-drivers-for-stable-releases/3262

In my case, switching my WRT3200ACM from DDWRT to OpenWRT did the trick for the poor WiFi connections on iOS devices.

There are even builds of OpenWRT that add support for things DDWRT supports https://dc502wrt.org/

Thank you for your replies

@razor7
I even did not know that WRT1900ACS has 2 partitions. I will look at the way I can boot on the other to see if it is the Linksys one.
I have no Iphone so IOS connection is not a very important issue.
I am particulay interested in the fact DD_WRT does support the killswitch application of NordVPN

@kernel-panic69
I I do not find Lynksys on the second partition. I will go for https://openwrt.org/toh/linksys/wrt_ac_series

Both partitions share the same location for configuration data...

Determine which partition OpenWrt is currently on via Telnet or SSH.

Return to stock Linksys firmware either by switching partitions, or flash stock firmware.

Confirm successful boot, then hard reset. From factory stock Linksys GUI, upgrade with factory-to-ddwrt.bin.

Be SURE to read the "Cliff Notes" sticky post near the top of this (Marvell) forum. THAT is your basic guide, not some undated old post about the WRT1900AC. The AC and ACSv2 are significantly different, so take care which firmware file you flash. Ignore the router database. Do not flash 40559, as it has problems. I suggest you go with 44048, which is about two months old now. More recent builds are going through some bugginess with wifi drivers. Get in the habit of reading over a build's new-build thread before flashing it. There's a forum thread currently extant where the OP picked a build at random and flashed without reading and happened to pick up the one build of the year capable of bricking his router. Don't be that guy!

Good luck!

1 Boot on the Linksys partition
1.1 Identification of the current partition and change
ssh root@192.168.1.1
/usr/sbin/fw_printenv -n boot_part
1
/usr/sbin/fw_setenv boot_part 2 && reboot
1.2 Boot on partition 2
Alas the partition 2 is also an OpenWRT one
1.3 Migrate the partition 2 to the Linksys firmware
• Get it from Linksys https://downloads.linksys.com/support/assets/firmware/FW_WRT1900ACSV2_2.0.3.201002_prod.img
• Copy it in /tmp scp FW_WRT1900ACSV2_2.0.3.201002_prod.img root@192.168.9.1:/tmp
• Ssh to the router ssh root@192.168.9.1
• Go to /tmp
• Install the firmware sysupgrade -F -n -v FW_WRT1900ACSV2_2.0.3.201002_prod.img

2 Migrate from the Linksys firmware to the DD-WRT one
• Download ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2020/10-13-2020-r44538/linksys-wrt1900acsv2/factory-to-ddwrt.bin
• Follow https://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=140365

It works !
