Does anyone know if there is a special way to install the DD-WRT to this router? It doesn't seem to work for me, I've tried all builds of the factory default with no luck.

I don't own this one, but in general the following guideline is recommended:

1. Reset the stock firmware to factory defaults.
2. Install the Factory to DD-wrt file first
3. log into 192.168.1.1 and setup the router.

For installs once dd-wrt is on the router use the normal bin file.

ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2020/10-02-2020-r44483/dlink-dir878-a1/

That is the newest version of the firmware.

The original thread is locked for the DIR-878 but just an extra info that might help with moving to dd-wrt.

As I understand it dlink changed their bootloader to only accept encrypted images.

While adding support to my Dlink device i noticed that the GPL source code from dlink for DIR-853 1.00 (first release) has a 32bit binary file called "imgcrypt".

It can be used to encrypt the firmware which will be acceted by the bootloader and the stock dlink firmware (already tested with someone elses DIR-878 and openwrt).

The file needs to be changed to a+x and the so file copied to the correct lib folder.

Hope this will help with flashing without having to downgrade the bootloader.

I actually just started having an issue with my DIR-878 if I may piggyback on this thread seing as it is tangetially related. I was adjusting some settings and after a power cycle I can't connect at all.

Simply put, I'm no longer able to access my router and it does not broadcast an IP - the default gateway section on ipconfig is blank. I attempted a 30/30/30 reset but it looks like that only puts the unit into recovery mode as the power indicator light does a slow flash without ever rebooting. Following this the router still has my settings as I can see the SSID's are still what I named them, even though I can't connect to them.

I suppose my question is how can I perform a factory reset now? I've also tried assigning an ip via TCP/ipv4 settings in hopes I could access my router via browser but I think I did it incorrectly because that did not work.

Thank you for anyone that has insight or ideas. I'm running on a backup router for now until I get this sorted.

Your problem has nothing to do with installing DD-WRT. Do not 30/30/30 this router (and very many others).

Thank you for the speedy response. I worried this was the case. Unfortunately that reset procedure didn't seem to do anything. I'll keep looking through the DLink support pages.
